First, the location, views, and atmosphere of this Doc Ford’s and the Pier are amazing. If you haven’t been to the Pier, please go as you will definitely find something you enjoy.
That being said, this is a review of Doc’s, and our experience, which wasn’t ideal. If you sit outside, the views are great but there are birds (and droppings) everywhere which took away from the overall experience. We visited during a slower time but our food took very long to come out. Our waiter came us twice to let us know “it was on its way.” The staff was friendly but not very efficient. We had to ask for drinks to be refilled and service was slow. Some of our food was tasty. The salmon and shrimp were very good and the calamari was delicious. The burger was just average and not worth the price. Overall, it was nice we tried it but our experience won’t bring us back, especially knowing of all of the other options to try in the area.

Had lunch at Doc few days ago. Nice seating with the view of the bay. Place was pretty busy. Had to wait for like 10 mins for seating.

Our waitress was Amanda.. wanted to give a shout out to her for her awesome customer service experience! Not only she was attentive, friendly and also appreciate her honest feedback about one dish from their menu!!

We got calamari for appetizers, they were pretty good.
For the main menu, I ordered the 1/4 grilled chicken with Cuban Chimichurri sauce. I really like the chicken but for me it’s better without the sauce.
Not crazy for their black beans, hash and sausages either, more potatoes than the sausages.
My husband had grouper tacos, he said was good.
The ️ is paid parking.

Doc Ford’s Rum Bar & Grill at the Saint Pete Pier delivers a remarkably consistent and high-quality dining experience. The clam chowder, flavorful Caesar salad with chicken, and even the simple yet satisfying beans and cheese dip with tortilla chips were excellent, showcasing strong food quality. Coupled with outstanding service and a pleasant atmosphere, the value here is genuinely an absolute steal, making it a top recommendation.

This was my second time at Doc Ford’s and it was just as good as the first. I didn’t get food since I was tight on time during my trip, but I did grab a drink and went with the Old Havana. Strong, well made and exactly how I like it. The staff was nice. My server Lisa took good care of me, she was just busy.

The views here are unbeatable day or night. The ambience is relaxed, the inside looks great and the outside area has a small stage for live music along with heat lamps when needed. Parking is doable, but you’ll need a little patience during weekend rushes.

If you like good drinks, music and easygoing vibes, this is a spot you should definitely check out.

Great location our on the southside of the pier with a clear view of the bay. Service was attentive, friendly, and fast even with a near full house. Food was very good, and reasonably priced for a ‘tourist’ area restaurant. There is parking on the pier or along the near by city streets if you want to get a little walk in before or after your meal. Small private planes taking off from Albert Whitted Airport were a bit unnerving at times as they were low altitude and hard banking.

Overall, a great experience. My grandmother was visiting and wanted a grouper option, and their macadamia nut–crusted grouper stood out right away. We planned to go around sunset as a group of four, and while we thought we might need reservations, the wait was only about 10 minutes. We even ended up with a window seat to catch the sunset, which made it even better.

The restaurant has a big dining room with plenty of seating, so it seems they can handle groups of all sizes. Menu options were solid with really reasonable prices. Most of what we ordered was delicious. The grouper was a hit, and even the clam chowder was great. The only plate we didn’t care for was the flatbread; it came out more like a big cracker—very thin and crunchy, not our preference for a base.

Our server was attentive, friendly, and kept checking in, which made the night go smoothly. Food came out in good time and overall was really enjoyable. The only downside was the mojitos—they honestly tasted like watered-down lime juice and weren’t worth it.

Everything else though was spot on: good food, good service, great view, and great prices. We’d definitely go back again, just skipping the mojitos.

I had a cup of the Clam Chowder (it was delicious) and a cup of the Conch Chiwder (disappointing, the broth overwhelmed any taste of conch) and we shared a Fig & Prosciutto Flat Bread (it was very good but would have been much better had it not been served cold and had enough Prosciutto to actually taste it) and the Yucatan Shrimp (it was a large portion, but as they are peel and eat it was a bit messy. The broth flavor was delicious so after peeling the Shrimp dip it back in the broth. Otherwise the shrimp had little flavor). All in all it was a disappointing experience. On a positive note we ate outside and the view was wonderful.

Awesome spot right on the water, very Florida-esque! They have a large menu with many different seafood and non-seafood options. Lots of drinks to choose from – both your standard drinks and a lot of frozen beachy drinks. I love that they have tons of outdoor seating with umbrellas.

Service was very quick once we were seated! Cornell was so nice and knowledgeable and really made our experience a 10. All of the dishes were delicious and very flavorful. The sweet potato fries were some of the best I’ve ever had.

Really enjoyed this place for dinner sitting at the bar looking out at the water. Bartender was very friendly & helped with recommendations on food. We got drinks – house wine for me & tequila for my husband. We shared the Yucatan peel & eat shrimp – yum – soooo good & messy but worth it – get it! My husband got the Yucatan fried shrimp sandwich with fries that was very delish & big! The fries have a panko coating on them which made them so crispy & yummy. I got the crab cake app with a slaw made of jicama – very good! Prices are reasonable for the area. Only issue was that we got charged for an extra wine that I did not have & we got that corrected but made us wonder as it wasn’t that busy – was she trying to see if we wouldn’t notice this “mistake”? Hmmm….

Shrimp wrap was good. Tenders big, kinda dry. Service was less than enthusiastic. Server guy kinda slow and seemed he’s wishing he was somewhere else. Very loud inside, prices reasonable. Large menu selections.
