Headed out of Escanaba on my first time through the Western Upper Peninsula, I knew I needed to grab a pasty before I left. Thankfully, Dobber’s opens pretty early on a Saturday. They had just sold out of their first few batches of breakfast pasties, so I grabbed two beef pasties for me and a co-worker. They really hit the spot on a cold morning. The crust is moist on the inside but flaky on the outside (not doughy at all), and the potato, rutebaga, and beef filling was amazing. Friendly staff, great location…what’s not to love? I may order some off their website one of these days. Highly recommend if you’re in Escanaba.

Fantastic traditional pastie shop and pasties. Great “twisted handle” crust, homemade. Perfect blend of meat, potato and rutabaga. No carrots, as it should be for a traditional pastie. Alot like grandma’s.

This was my first time trying fresh pasties! So many varieties and piping hot!!
We tried the pizza, chicken, ham and cheese and beef. Each one was pretty good. The pizza and beef are my favorites!
The service was ok. They were nice but I wasn’t greeted upon coming in and had to address the employees behind the counter before being noticed and we were the only ones there. the atmosphere leaves much to be desired. But they did offer a large selection of frozen pasties you can take home too! All in all I look forward to going here again, but it’s definitely a grab and go kind of place.

We had driven through the lower peninsula of Michigan, across the Mackinac Bridge, and were coming down through the Upper Peninsula of Michigan when we came across Dobber’s Pasties in Escanaba, Michigan. We had stopped at a couple of other pasties restaurants, but none had vegetarian pasties. We were in luck at Dobber’s because they had pasties that were totally vegetarian, and it was delicious! The service was great and the staff were friendly.

Nice local pastie place. Really good pasties with lots of baggies! Assorted varieties, minis for snacks, pizza, chicken and ham and cheese. Gravy and other sauces available, small area of yooper memorabilia. Makes for a quick lunch on the go, just like the miners did!

When traveling, I do my best to seek out and enjoy regional cuisine. Which means when I’m in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, I’m eating a pasty or two. My family and I are staying in Escanaba on our way elsewhere, so our time here is limited. As such, I was a little worried that I’d miss the opportunity to enjoy a pasty – but when I saw that Dobber’s Pasties had a breakfast pasty (and that they conveniently open at 7:00am in the morning), I was stoked! I stopped by and grabbed a couple of their breakfast pasties and a beef pasty for later – and I am happy I did! The breakfast pasty far exceeds any grab-and-go fast food or hotel continental breakfast options, so if your passing through like we are, do yourself a favor and check out Dobber’s.

Classic pasties served here along with some modern takes with the pizza and breakfast pastie. Tried the beef, chicken and veggie pasties. All were served nice and warm. We got gravy on the side. The gravy was served in these plastic cups and I was thrown off as there seemed to be a funky taste happening with the gravy. Otherwise the pasties themselves were good but I wouldn’t get the gravy. You can also get frozen pasties to take home and bake yourself.

First time in Escanaba. Decided to give this place a try. It’s not a fancy place but the pasties are handmade and delicious!!! What a great find!!! We had a chicken and a beef pasty. Both were good but I think the beef was my favorite. I dipped my pasty into a little gravy. So yummy!!! You can get them hot and cooked or frozen to go.

I may not be the best to judge my beef pastie but I just didn’t care for it. It was primarily potato with a smearing of beef. The beef filling reminded visually and smell of canned corn beef and hash, but primarily potato’s. This is my third of eating a pastie from three different places. It will likely be my last.
As usual, the picture is after I had a couple bites. I did hold for a size comparison.

This is legit. We were passing thru town, saw pasties, and had to stop. These are probably the best I’ve had this side of the Atlantic. We had beef, pizza, and breakfast. The beef and pizza were stellar. My only issue with the breakfast was less variation in texture in the pasty (just personal preference), but flavors were great.
