DJ’s Great Room sits comfortably in a prime pocket of Old Town Chicago, and it carries itself with the kind of quiet confidence that good neighborhood spots tend to develop.
The first thing you notice is the attention to detail. Nothing feels rushed. The service is warm, sharp, and present without hovering. The kind of team that lets the meal unfold naturally.
The food follows the same philosophy. Hearty, balanced, and clearly prepared with care. The shrimp Caesar salad stole the show. Large, well-seasoned shrimp layered over crisp greens with a bright, balanced dressing that tied everything together. Clean flavors, generous portion, and the kind of dish that reminds you simple things can be done extremely well.
The shakshuka came out in a hot skillet, rich with tomato and vegetables, eggs set just right. While I personally would have welcomed a bit more kick (spices, etc.), the dish still delivered and didn’t disappoint. Comforting, flavorful, and thoughtfully executed.
Add a solid drink lineup and a location that makes it easy to wander in or linger a bit longer than planned, and DJ’s Great Room earns its place in the neighborhood rotation.
Not flashy. Just well done. And that tends to be the places worth returning to.

Popped in for drinks with some friends and saw that they had restaurant week so we stayed for dinner. It’s a good deal for what you get but definitely not impressed by the food, our pasta while a large portion was not hard and tough to eat. The onion soup was great and dessert was meh. It’s a cute date spot for drinks though

Food is really excellent. Great quality produce and great tastes. Cocktails were decent with nice specialties that they make there. Ambience is cool and has a good mix of young and old with a good atmosphere and great choice of indoor and outdoor seating. It’s very friendly. Service however was average. Our waitress seamed to forget about us early on and it took forever to take our order we found another waitress to take it. They even served a table next to us that came later first. Drinks also came out after our starter which was odd. The waitress apologized later stating it was a busy Friday but it seemed more just an organization issue. Overall we still enjoyed it but if they could sort out the service then it would be a higher score.

I had the absolute BEST experience at DJ’s Great Room thanks to Kila! From the moment we sat down, she made us feel genuinely welcomed and taken care of. Her service was flawless, attentive without ever feeling rushed, and she anticipated everything we needed before we even had to ask.
The custom cocktails she recommended were unreal. You can tell she really knows her craft because each drink was perfectly balanced, creative, and exactly what we were hoping for. It felt like we had our own personal mixologist. Plus the decor is very vintage and so fun!

This bar/ restaurant just opened and the food is amazing, we tried the calamari that was spicy but super tasty, the half chicken was really good and the ribs top top. We got some cocktails and wine again amazing. Definitely a really nice place, the service was good and everyone very friendly. I enjoyed it very much ! Alejandro is wonderful he made our experience even better.

This place sat us 30 minutes after our reservation, drinks took around 30 minutes to come out, and our appetizer never showed until after our mains. Totally understand they were busy…but maybe too busy for quality service. The food was also subpar. Waitress was lovely but I would never come again.

I had an amazing time at this restaurant! I came during Valentines weekend so I had a chance to try a special menu at the Chef prepared and also a signature entrée. Everything from the service, to the drinks, to the layers of flavor in food really at this place over the top. A shout out to Hannah for managing an incredibly busy bar, but never allowing me to feel neglected. And to her other bartender who was always available to help, to ensure the perfect experience. I will be back and cannot wait to try more amazing food here. The restaurant is fairly new so hopefully when I come back, it’s twice as good
