Stopped in for the first time, take out order for two. This review is about the food and prices. The staff were friendly and helpful, four stars for staff. They have an outdoor seating area which seemed relaxed and pleasant.

Unfortunately DJ’s clam shack is overpriced and average quality food. The pictures below are taken of the food as-is, before being touched.

The shrimp comes with either coleslaw or regular fries for $14+ tax. The coleslaw option is apparently a small side to-go condiment cup, like one you would get at a diner. It is also placed on top of the shrimp inside the box so it is very warm- if you like warm coleslaw you might like this style. The fried shrimp was completely unseasoned, tasted only like the fried breading. Not terrible, not worth $14+.

The fried fish fingers come with the same coleslaw or fries, with five ‘fingers’ for $14+ tax. For this one, the seasoning was very salty and didn’t taste like much else. Again, not terrible but not great for $14+ for five thin strips.

I wanted to try DJ’s basic items before trying their pricer lobster items sold at MP but unfortunately, I don’t think I’ll be back.

Fun little spot if you’re looking for a quick bite that’s not too over the top.
It’s a straight to the point restaurant, you order at the cashier, and servers will bring it out to you where you sit.
The food is ok, nothing with that WOW factor.
Calamari were good, crispy and light.
The lobster rolls were ok, it had a few large pieces right on-top.
The frozen margaritas and pina coladas are strong! However I wish there were more drink options, they have a few canned drinks, and a sangria on the tap.
It’s an open concept restaurant inside, it’s a very casual feel.

Stopped in for my first time at this location for lunch. I’ve been to some of the other locations and they are significantly smaller. This location had ample parking and tables in side and outside which is a bonus being right across from the harbor.

My wife and I split an order of the clams with jalapeños which came in a delicious spicy broth and an order of Thai calamari. One of my favorite non traditional calamari and this was one of the best versions I’ve had. Perfect crispy but still tender.

We also order some coconut shrimp that came with an order of fries and a shrimp scampi roll. I know they are famous for their lobster rolls, but do not sleep on the shrimp scampi roll. Delicious!!!!

And great news They also mentioned that this year they would be staying open on the weekends during the winter where they have closed in years past.

We had the cold double Lobster rolls and the sweet potato fries. The Lobster rolls were delicious and the fries came with a maple aioli sauce that was so tasty. There are plenty of outdoor tables with umbrellas spaced far apart and off street parking in the back. We will definitely go back. We have been back to DJ’s many times. Today we went to DJ’s with another couple and we all enjoyed the Lobster Rolls and Sweet Potato Fries. The positive experience included Joseph coming outside to our table several times to ask how everything was and if we needed anything. This is awesome customer service and Joseph should be acknowledged for this. He sets a great example for the other employees.

Overall I thought DJs was just ok. Not sure if I would go back, especially for what everything cost.

Vibe: The vibe is casual, and almost a bit cold. We sat outside, which was nice, but it is on a busy road. Free parking in the back is a plus.

Service: This was the highlight. The staff was super friendly and helpful.

Food: The food in my opinion was hit and miss. I didn’t think there was anything so fabulous that I had to go back and have. The onion rings were the best part and I’d give them a solid 4. ($6.00) The chipotle sauce was a nice compliment to the rings.

I’d give the Ipswich Clams basket a 3. ($29.00) The breading on the clams was nice and light, but we had several clams with sand grit. The french fries were ok, a bit cold, bland and not crispy. The coleslaw was the best part of the basket.

And finally I’d give the Cold Lobster Roll a 3 as well.($24.00) It was a bit heavy on the mayonnaise and I felt was loaded with the rubbery lobster claw tips.

Was it horrible, no. Expensive, yes. Would I go back, probably not.

The lobster roll was great- buttery roll, fresh lobster. The kungpow calamari was good- it’s not really kungpow in the traditional sense, just sweet chili sauce over fried calamari.
We sat outside and wiped the table ourselves because it was dirty, the inside was really nice though!

Clam chowder was normal, Calamari was also not bad, and Mahi Mahi Taco was good! But they gave the clam chowder in the plastic container even though we had it in dining and price was $19, and utensils are only small plastic ones too.. I am not happy with that paid a lot and no good service.

Overall did not have a good experience here at all. The place is very cute and I liked the indoor/ outdoor area. Menu had a lot on it and you definitely have your options. Staff was friendly but that soon ended when we placed our order. We ordered the clam chowder, I ordered the Ipswich clams and my mom wanted the lobster empanada. Mine came with fries and cole slaw and the menu specifically says that the lobster empanada comes with fries or coleslaw. The girls behind the counter insisted it didn’t! It blatantly said it right on the menu so how can you deny it? If that’s the case then take it off the menu! Now having spent a nice weekend in Boston/ cape cod/ Connecticut last weekend, I had high expectations for the food. The clam chowder was just okay. Lobster empanada barely had any lobster in it. Fries were good and coleslaw was good but the clams…… not good. They were bitter, sandy and really gross compared to the ones I’ve had in New England. I wouldn’t go back unfortunately.
