Reviews
I happened upon this quaint, friendly and fast place by accident. Located next to Inkspot, people drive by for a really quick and onolicious pickup. They offer 3 simple bentos that offer a quick but wide variety of food. Drop by to get your quick fix to start your day. They open at 6am. D, one of the owners was really informative and helpful. And the food offerings is what attracts your eye at their prices. Not overly huge but very reasonable and economical portions in these trying times. A nice niche option just minutes from anywhere in town and the airport. Onolicious! ✌️
We will definitely ve going back when we go back to Kauai.
ATMOSPHERE:
The tiny open-air spot is located in a small strip mall across from Ace Hardware. It’s mainly a takeout spot, but they cleared off their sole 4-seater table for our gang, lol.
MENU:
Chicken, pork, beef, fish, sushi, shrimp, hot dog, corned beef hash; either a la carte or together in a box lunch.
FOOD:
Box Lunch
An actual pie box comes loaded with two musubi, two crispy & savory fried chicken wings, tender teriyaki pork, a slice of luncheon meat, half a boiled hot dog, a tong-full of tsukemono (pickled cabbage), slice of egg roll, and some broken spaghetti mayo salad. We each got the deluxe size which adds two small shrimp tempura. Everything was cooked perfectly and tasted absolutely delicious.
SERVICE:
Everyone was friendly and food service was lightning quick.
OVERALL:
Cheap, delicious, and a definite return! Go deluxe!
I ordered the deluxe and it was good. The portions were decent. (Take a look at the photo).
My latest visit was to the beautiful island of Kaua’i, Hawai’i.
The location was smack dab in the middle of the island in a town called Lihu’e. Ample parking in a nice clean parking lot. I was stoked to find somewhere that opened early to grab a quick bite (6 am! Even though I didn’t make it there exactly at 6 am! It was nice to know they were open). The outside window was neat and clean with their menu and beautiful pictures of what they offered neatly arranged in a good, easy-to-see view for ordering customers and passerby’s. I find myself still in awe of how neat their signs were placed.
I ordered a Spam Musubi and a Deluxe Box Lunch as recommended by the patron who ordered ahead of me, as well as the little girl who worked the window. What was supposed to be a snack was my breakfast and then some. I devoured the whole thing! The food was hot and everything was delicious. The fried chicken was superb, the beef was cooked to where it melted in my mouth, the mac salad was not too wet or too dry, It was made perfectly! The Spam Musubi so so so so good! Amazing flavor that didn’t overpower the musubi. I wish I had time to write about everything I ate from that cute white box. I ate everything before I left the parking lot. Good thing I got there when they opened for there was a line starting to form already, I sat there in my car rental satisfied! Good job DJ’s Box Lunch!!!! I’ll be back before I leave the island for more.
