What is the history of Dixie Eatery in Smithsburg, Maryland?
The Dixie has been in it’s current location since at least 1965. I remember going there when I was 13 and I am 71 now.

I came here upon a client’s request. I had eaten prior, so I only ordered a water with lemon, and a Bowl of Chicken Noodle soup. No can stuff here. It looked fine, tasted fine, though on the salty side. Served with saltine crackers. Server was prompt and nice. Classic dinner atmosphere with good music. Would recommend try at least once if homestyle dinners are up your alley.

This is A Must Visit Diner. Everything is perfect. The food is great, service is old fashion and the atmosphere is spot on. Family owned & operated. It was amazing. I had a cheeseburger & fries. Saw the sign for “Hogmaw” and asked about it. I got a free sample & it was delicious. Only served on Thursdays. Tess, the owner is amazing. Made me feel at home. I will be taking the 2 hour ride back.

My family has been coming to the Dixie for almost 30 years and we have NEVER had a negative experience. When we used to travel and we would find an out-of-the-way family diner, we would say that we wished we had some place like it to frequent at home. The Dixie IS that diner. When it closed during covid, we had Dixie “withdrawal”. I could go for a week, get something different every day and be perfectly satisfied. It’s sort of like Cheers w/o the booze. Try it, you’ll love it!!!

Charming little diner in a wonderful small town. Service is prompt, professional, and kind. The food is exactly what should be served in a place like this, simple, yet delicious! America needs more small locally owned diners just like this! It’s not a fancy place, but it’s perfect in its own delightful way! I will definitely be visiting again next time I’m in the area.

Love this little diner!! If you want a good home cooked meal, check this place out! Breakfast is amazing and portions are phenomenal and also the pancakes… are FLUFFY AND HUGE! Prices are WONDERFUL!!

When I walked into the Dixie diner, I was immediately transported to the day my grandfather took me to a diner in the 60s. The decor, the food, the friendly service was like being in a time capsule of that day. All good! I went back and brought my grandchildren, who loved the place and the stories of their great grandfather. I go back now every chance I get.

It was a total Mayberry vibe in the best possible way. The food was classic Americana diner chow with killer fluffy pancakes, just the right amount of greasy fried homestyle potatoes, perfectly fried eggs that oozed like lava down my yummy ribeye. Had a toasted English muffin to dip into eggs with enough butter to make any southern grandma smile. Our waitress so friendly and fast and the oldies music completed the vibe. Highly, highly recommend anytime you are in the Smithsburg area looking for a simple but tasty meal and it is 100% family friendly!!

Great food, great atmosphere, great service, great variety. This is a small hometown diner that has everything. I used to eat here 20 years ago all the time when I was in high school and this place hasn’t changed a bit. Good job guys, keep it going!!!
