If you need to have dinner walking distance to the theater, this is a choice. The atmosphere is nice. The service is professional. The food is beautifully plated. The short ribs were flavorful but a bit tough and the duck was a bit dry which is hard to accomplish with duck. Thank goodness for the sauce and the sides. They change the menu so you may get lucky. I’d give them another try.

We had an excellent dinner before attending a musical at the Playhouse. Excellent location to park once and walk. This is across from the Hanna Theatre and perfect location for any of the theatres.
The warm bread was so tasty with a house made strawberry butter. The drinks were creative and tasty too. I had the yellow brick road. I will say that the reviews all point to plates being small. We didn’t walk away hungry at all, but they are designed for one person, so you will not want to plan on splitting. We had a salad and entree and were able to eat our meal without any leftovers. I had the crabcakes and they were so delicious, loved the fire roasted tomato orzo. My husband had the halibut and he should have said something, but the halibut was very dry. We finished up with a slice of the lemon cake and I will say, the meal was perfect for us. Service was very good and I would definitely come back.

Clean restaurant and menu looked good but the Octopus was wet and chewy, not grilled per menu description. The steaks weren’t seared and the bacon was wet and soggy. I had to spit the octopus out into the napkin and more thsn half of my meal was left on the plate but the waiter never caught onto it. This was my first visit to Cleveland with my boyfriend so we wanted to try out a new place. I felt bad and didn’t want to send our food back.

We dined here recently and while it wasn’t busy, the experience felt rushed. Our server explained that the restaurant is typically busy before shows at the Playhouse Theater and slows down afterward, even mentioning they would have closed early if not for our reservation.

Although she was initially friendly, her attitude seemed to shift during the meal. At times she appeared irritated and disengaged, which impacted the overall atmosphere.

Near the end of dinner, the lights kept turning off and back on multiple times. It honestly felt like a hint that we should leave, which was VERY uncomfortable.

Food was mid.

Sadly, the service didn’t match what we hoped for.

The restaurant itself is nice and a great location to eat before heading to a show. No complaints on the service and cocktails were good. The side room for larger parties is very loud so do not plan to talk to the rest of your table since there is no sound absorption. The food needs serious work. We had a group of 12 and no one was happy with their dinner. I had to ask for salt and pepper and then nearly everyone at the table used it. The filet is not a filet as there was fat and gristle to cut off. The halibut was very over cooked, and you could tell sat under a heat lamp for quite some time. Mushroom risotto was flavorless. I could keep going, but you get the point.

Our server was nice but used that awful “Are we seeing a show?” And “What’s our show tonight?” I kept pointing to my husband saying “OUR show is Jim Jeffries. I don’t know what your show is.” Is this a young persons way of being patronizing? Just stop with that.

I did really like the French onion soup. The crab/jalapeño arancini was so awful I spit it out. I do not recommend it. I love crab cakes. I order fresh meat once per month to make them. IDK what they are using but it was off. Husband got cod. I thought it was way too fishy for that type. He tolerated it. The rolls were good.

I had two Sweet Caroline mocktails, which were great. He had a bourbon drunk with candied bacon in it, which he enjoyed. He described his lava cake as something his granddaughter could make in an easy bake oven.

We really do not recommend this place at all.

I really don’t get the bad reviews here.
My husband and I had reservations at a different restaurant before going to Playhouse Square on a Saturday night. When we went to the other restaurant we walked out, but then ended up at District (it was our first time here).
We walked in with every intent of sitting at the bar. The hostess asked us if we wanted a table as they had a last minute cancellation. We jumped on it!
Our server was very attentive – our cocktails were absolutely DELICIOUS!
I ordered the filet and my husband ordered the flat iron. We had told the server that we were going to a show and she made sure our food came out quickly. Both plates of food were excellent, although mine was better than his (lol). Honestly, I’ve been to lots of steakhouses and restaurants and order filet often and I think my dinner at District was THE BEST filet I have ever had – EVER!
I can’t believe I have never been here but I would definitely recommend and definitely be back!!!

Nice restaurant, great location close to the theaters…but the food left something to be desired. We went for brunch and many at our table got the eggs benedict. It sounded great on the menu…but was not great on the plate. It was a thick piece of ciabatta bread with a piece of lettuce and 2 hard boiled eggs with some sauce. The pork belly was a small pile of jerky bites on the side. Everyone at the table had completely over cooked eggs and not enough sauce. My sister got the short rib flat bread and that was pretty good, said onion soup was not great. Not sure if we just had bad luck. Service was nice and the restaurant had nice atmosphere…plenty of seating including some bar seating. I may give it another shot at dinner before passing final judgment…but very unimpressed.

While the food is pretty good here, the scallops were not gritty. However the menu mentioned that the scallops were supposed to come with corn and pancetta. Both of those things were not even included in my meal. I was really confused, but we had a show we needed to catch so I didn’t say anything.

I am so very disappointed by our experience here. At the beginning of our stay, we were the only ones in a back room and still the service was extremely slow. It took over 30 minutes for my cocktail. Our food took over an hour, we both ordered fish entrees. It did start getting busier so we gave them the benefit of the doubt… until our meal came out. The food was HORRIBLE. I mean when I say the worst meal we’ve ever had, it was the worst meal we’ve ever had. My husband got the special which was catfish? (Did not look like cat fish) looked like it was microwaved with a horrible sweet sauce. My halibut was dry and overcooked with Italian seasoning on top? The only edible part was the mashed potatoes, which weren’t great. They did comp our meals because of how terrible they were, but we had to go to our show hungry which was disappointing. I would recommend you NOT eat at this place.
