The brisket, mustard sauce and spicy Cole slaw were fantastic. The meat was perfect — juicy and delicious. Combine that with the beautiful grounds and taproom at Meanwhile Brewing, plus some seriously good beer, and you have a winner. I’ll be back!

Finally had a chance to visit Distant Relatives trailer at Meanwhile Brewing after multiple friends recommending it. I’m glad I went and will definitely be back! I got the brisket sandwich and the sausage mac n cheese. I love the West and South African spices in the food. Food comes out quickly. I’m sure it gets quite busy on weekends. Thanks guys!

4.29.2022 edit: Came back for the second time and they did not disappoint. Best brisket I’ve had so far. Nice thick slices that was juicy and moist, not sure why other place slice theirs thin.
Ribs were the best I’ve had, and I’ve tried maybe 6 places in Austin. It had the right balance of tenderness and bite. It was so good I forgot to take a picture. I ordered half a pound and got 3 generous size ribs. It has me questioning other places I’ve visited now. This half pound was more than a half pound I got elsewhere. Unfortunately, the ribs was all I had to try. They were sold out of everything else. The service was fast and polite.

I ordered the bologna, brisket, pulled pork, and pork ribs. I really enjoyed the pulled pork and ribs the most. The brisket was nice and tender but lacked a bit of flavor. The bbq and vinegar based mustard sauces complimented the meats very well. I’d recommend coming here for good Texas style bbq when you’re in town. I stayed at the courtyard airport and it was not too far of a drive.

Everything we wanted and more! My man and I had been wanting to come to this place ever since we moved here 5 months ago and watched Somebody Feed Phil. Let me tell you this place did not disappoint. We had the brisket, pulled pork, hot link, black eyed peas, and the rice. Even with all that food we just about licked the plate. The brisket was perfect, the pulled pork and black eyed peas were the best we’ve ever had and don’t sleep on the rice as it was so flavorful and also had chicken. Nia gave great service and even called me out by name when she noticed me doing the ‘head nod’ dance (you know the way you move your head when your taste buds are having a party). The spot itself is very cute and made for a perfect date night. Oh and they have peanuts which was perfectly seasoned making for a great snack. Loved this Texas modern African American bbq! Will be back!

Not only is the BBQ delicious, but the grits are the best we’ve had. And the black eyed peas were flat out superb.

Wow this was great BBQ. Best I’ve had in a while. Chicken and pork belly were the standouts imo. Sides were terrific, especially black eyed peas and the grits.

Man this is some good Q. Brisket was huge and smoked really well. Tried pork collar for the first time and this is so good. Idk if it’s limited time or what but it slaps hard. Had pickled carrots and burnt end black eyed peas- killed it. This is probably the most interesting BBQ I’ve ever had. Glad to have them in the neighborhood!
Edit: Also tried the bacon this week, this is the best place to come for unique bbq. Also had the new brisket sandwich in Aug 2022, red chile mustard is to die for. Really good with the fattiness of the brisket

I made it to Distant Relatives a few weekends ago. It’s a food trailer operation set up in a nice spot adjacent to a brewery with plenty of outdoor seating. Everything had just a bit of a spicy taste, which I liked. The brisket and blackeye peas were my favorites! I’m not a huge chicken person, but the chicken quarter was really moist and tasted great! Parking is at a premium. If you’re going to enjoy beer from the brewery, be prepared to wait in line.
