What really made the experience special, though, was the service. Raff went above and beyond and truly made the birthday brunch fabulous. He has great attention to detail, was warm and attentive, and made the whole experience feel really special from start to finish.
Great atmosphere, amazing food, and exceptional service. Would absolutely recommend and will definitely be back.
we were seated at our table by our female waitress (i didn’t catch her name), and when she took our order for our starter, she asked if we had allergies, to which we replied no. when we ordered our mains, she asked again if we had allergies?
we had the chicken tenders to start, which were very tasty, but you only get three the size of your finger for £9.50! i had the birria tacos, which were the size of my palm, and my boyfriend had the classic burger, with a side of fries. when i ordered the tacos, i asked the waitress if they came with sauce on, and she said yes. i asked if this sauce was mayo, as i dislike this, and she said ‘uhh no, it doesn’t come with sauce’.
for our drinks, i had the berry bonito, which was really nice, and my boyfriend ordered the cherry soda, but received a cherry soda float. this was unappetising as it curdled as soon as the soda was poured on the ice cream.
when we were ready to pay the bill, our waitress was no where to be seen so we requested this from another member of staff, a blonde male. so there was a 10 minute wait for the bill to be brought to us, which came to a whopping £68!! bearing in mind we had the abysmal chicken tender starter, two lunch options, fries, and two drinks!
this included a pre-added 12.5% service charge, which quite high, and should be optional, and not thrown upon the customers, as it is awkward to ask to remove this. we decided against removing this, as we wanted to leave, and didn’t want to wait another 10 minutes for the amended bill, even though the service we received was not worth 12.5% gratuity.
when we had paid with the blonde gent, we got up and walked towards the door to leave. as we got to the door, our original female waitress followed and shouted ‘wait i don’t know if you guys have paid!’ in front of the other customers. this was embarrassing for us, as we are not the kind to up and leave without paying the bill. i explained we paid with her colleague and left.
we had been recommended this restaurant by a friend, but it is safe to say we won’t be returning. please teach your staff basic serving etiquette, and perhaps review the portion sizes, as we were hungry when we left. very poor value for money, would rather have spent the £70 elsewhere. avoid like the plague unless you want a snack for the price of a meal, and don’t mind taking out a mortgage for lunch.
also tried their mac & cheese balls, the sauce was kinda overpowering but worth a try.
they also have a separate menu with halal options! will definitely be back.
The restaurant itself is stunning, especially come dinner time when the rooftop setting is simply gorgeous. The food presentation was on point, and the taste was amazing – truly a treat for the senses. If you’re in Oxford, Dirty Bones is a top pick for great food, great service, and a beautiful dining experience. Can’t wait to go back!
Everything tasted excellent and staff provided a 5 star service.
The only reason I decided to go for 4 stars instead of 5 was due to the prices! For the food type and for what we had (and portions) the food is extremely expensive!
With a starter, 2 mains, 1 loaded fries (since the mains @£20 come with no sides) and 1 dessert and 1 drink you are @£40 per person. For £40 per person I would imagine being in a fine dining restaurant and having a tomahawk steak that comes with 2 sides and 2 sauces included.
