We sat in the bar. Brian was our bartender, he was quick to get our first drink. All other interactions with him required us to wave him down or ask another staff member to get him for us. After finally getting his attention to order food we placed another drink order, long Island iced tea. It was undrinkable. 3/4 sour mix. After getting his attention to talk about it, he didnt offer to remake or make a different drink. We observed him using the straw method to taste drinks and shots he was making for other patrons, clearly not trying the long Island. Patrons around us, seated after us, were able to order and served before we were able to even order. We knew what we wanted right away. Food and atmosphere were great. Would try again with a different bartender/server. Enjoyed the pleasant host with the mustache.

I got their burger and it was yummy and classic with good fries. My wife got the braised short rib pasta which blew my mind. It was rich in flavor and tender beyond belief. We also shared some of their(addicting) fried pickles and delicious clam chowder. The pasta dish is enough for me to want to come back ASAP! Easily my favorite place we ate at the whole trip.

Went to Salem for the day on a MONDAY (I live in Boston) and stopped in for lunch. There was no one to greet us at the hostess stand, we decided to look for seats at the bar and we did find some. I ordered a bloody margarita which was lackluster. Even though it wasn’t busy I had to flag down a bartender to order food. We were half way through our drinks when our appetizer came. I ordered the steak nachos medium rare and let me tell you these were the best nachos I’ve ever had in my life. No one continued to check on us, towards the end of almost finishing the nachos I asked for two waters, i asked for straws but the bartender didn’t hear me and I must’ve said excuse me a few times. I decided to get up and go across the bar and get straws on my own. As tempted as I was to try entrees on the menu, the service was so terrible we decided to close out. I asked for the bartender’s names which are Ryan and Oz. Our two drinks and one appetizer came out to $59.39 we still left a 20% tip which totaled to $71.26. I would expect better service for those prices.

Bartender Ryan was fun and had good recommendations. Espresso martini, window maker IPA & pulled pork sandwich…sandwich was enough for 2 and fries were crispy and delish! Not to mention we had gyozas for an appetizer and they were on point!

I had the short rib tacos. One taco had too much fatty pieces made it hard to eat. Really didn’t have much flavor. I subbed fries for yucca fries. Again not much flavor.

My family really enjoyed their meals fish tacos were great! Regular fries are good too! Corn dip appetizer was meh…

I got the good greif cocktail. It was delicious!

The bathrooms didnt have toilet paper.

I would definitely go back but try something else. Server was very nice.

There was no wait. The staff were so attentive and friendly. The prices were reasonable but the food was the best part! Worth every penny. The fries are homemade and the best fries I’ve had in a long time. Everyone cleaned their plate. They have plenty of gluten free options that I thought were delicious.

The waitstaff are very welcoming and helpful, the atmosphere is fantastic, and the food is worth coming back for. They might have the best fried pickles in the Americas. We split the Wolf Burger and the Pulled Pork, both were phenomenal!

A tavern style experience from the look of it, but an eclectic mix of menu items makes this an interesting experience. Bonus points for the clearly labelled Gluten Free menu items and for have a decent range of Gluten Free items.

From a calamari app to sushi and tacos for mains, you can see this menu just does whatever it wants. And, most importantly, it’s all delicious. Only thing is the cost – it’s sitting right at that price point of good value / too expensive, so definitely keep that in mind if that is an important factor for you.

I had a great experience and definitely recommend this restaurant to families staying in the area.

Dire Wolf Tavern, a beautiful name, but sadly, the bite was worse than the bark.
We stopped by around 3 PM, well past the lunch rush, the place was half empty, so we thought we’d just sit at the bar and enjoy a cozy off-hour bite. Instead, we were told it’s “reservation only.” For a half-empty tavern? That was the first red flag fluttering in the afternoon breeze.
The bartender looked about as thrilled to see us as a cat in a bathtub. I asked for a recommendation on a seasonal cocktail, hoping for something creative, but got a drink that was, shall we say, “quick to make, easy to forget.” Flavorless and flat. Then we sat. And sat. And sat some more. About 20 minutes of awkward “are we invisible?” energy later, Zoe appeared, friendly, apologetic, and efficient. I ordered a different drink, and to her credit, that one was great. For a brief moment, hope returned.

Then came the food. All of it. At once. Soup, appetizer, burger, tacos, a full-on buffet crash landing. We tried to make it work, but it was clear the timing was as off as my first cocktail. No one checked in to see if the food was okay, if we needed refills, or, honestly, if we were still alive.
When the check came, I left a modest 10%, not out of spite, but because the service simply didn’t earn more. That’s when I saw Zoe show the slip to a coworker, roll her eyes, and make a face. Ouch. That was the final straw, and I asked for the manager.

It’s a pity, the place itself has charm, but the experience felt more like a tourist trap than a true tavern. If you’re looking for warmth, hospitality, or a decent cocktail story to tell, keep walking.

Such a great place to enjoy a bite to eat and rest your feet. They were very accommodating to food allergies and the menu is awesome for people with celiac. I got to eat fried pickles that were delicious!
