Louisville Pizza Week Review: Diorio’s — Aaron’s Heat & Sweet
Alright, listen… Diorio’s did not have to go this hard for Pizza Week, but they absolutely did.
I grabbed the 10” Aaron’s Heat and Sweet, and let me tell you — this thing is the full personality package. Pesto base, spicy sausage, pepperoni, pineapple, jalapeños, sweet red onions, fresh basil… it’s basically the entire cast of a Bravo reality show on one crust, and somehow it all works.
The pesto hits first, then the pepperoni edges get that perfect little crisp, the jalapeño heat sneaks in, and just when you think it’s too much… the pineapple shows up like, “Relax, I got us.”
The fresh basil on top? That’s Diorio’s saying, “We cook, but we also care.”
Crust was on point. Cheese ratio was elite. And yes, for the record, Melissa ordered the baked pepperoni pasta bowl in the background and declared it “dangerously good.”
If you’re doing Louisville Pizza Week, put Diorio’s on your route. This one deserves its own trophy, parade, and maybe a small plaque at City Hall.
Would 100% get again. Might even get it tomorrow.

I rang in my birthday dinner at DiOrio’s Pizza & Pub off River Road, and I’m convinced this place is the definition of happiness… wrapped in dough and smothered in cheese.
First of all, let’s talk about that pizza. Extra cheesy doesn’t even begin to cover it—this was the kind of cheese pull that could double as a bungee cord. Every slice felt like it deserved its own standing ovation. Honestly, if you don’t leave DiOrio’s with a grin and a mild cheese coma, you’re doing it wrong.
The kids? Total jackpot. They spent half the night outside running around and playing, which meant the adults actually got to enjoy their drinks hot and their conversations uninterrupted. I didn’t know a pizza place could double as free childcare, but here we are.
And even though the place was absolutely slammed (clearly all of Louisville had the same idea), the service was flawless. Our server was basically a superhero—drinks topped off, food out fast, and not once did we feel forgotten. That’s a 10 out of 10 performance under pressure.
As if that wasn’t enough, they had the Louisville Cardinal football game on. So there I was: surrounded by friends, kids entertained, pizza that could hold its own in the “cheesiest in the city” contest, and the Cards on TV. What’s not to love?
By the end of the night, I decided two things:
1. This was easily the best birthday dinner I’ve had in years.
2. DiOrio’s is hands-down the best pizza restaurant in Louisville.
Now I just need to invent more birthdays—or maybe start celebrating half-birthdays, dog birthdays, even goldfish birthdays—just to have an excuse to come back.

Always fun hanging out at DiOrio’s, this time getting the yummy Italian hoagie and A-train pizza! Still a great fall day yesteday and they let our dog hang out too! Our sweet server Annie’s even made sure Rocky got a water bowl!

Driven by this place multiple times and thought it was cool with all the pickleball courts in the back. One night my girlfriend and I thought let’s check it out. It wasn’t busy so we got sat right away. That was the only good thing about our experience. We sat down and my gf went to the restroom. She was in there for 5 mins and not one person stopped by to say hi or take our drink order. My gf returned and asked me has anyone come by, I said nope. For 15 mins we watched staff walk by and just talk to each other but not one stopped to get drink orders and say hello. We watched for another 5 mins and then we decided you know what we’ve had enough. They are more concerned with laughing and talking to themselves (staff) then helping customers. It was not busy at all. Probably 30% full. We looked at each other and said should we just leave. I said hell yes. We won’t be going back ever. If I could give it 0 stars I would.

Went for lunch during the first couple of days the restaurant was open. They were still working through some hiccups, but I can overlook that since the restaurant is new. The staff was really friendly. The food was good but I expected a little more for the price point. I got a calzone and it looked like a half a cup of olive oil drained out of it. Again, I can overlook that because they were still working out the kinks. What I didn’t like though was having someone hold my credit card and ask me if I want to add a tip for a carryout order. Just give me the receipt to sign and I’ll add something if it’s appropriate. It made me feel like I was being strong-armed for a tip just for placing an order. Lastly one of the employees had their dog tied up right at the main entrance. The dog wasn’t aggressive or anything but it seemed really unprofessional. It wouldn’t be very welcoming for someone that’s afraid of dogs. I’ll definitely try the place again in a month or so to see if they get everything worked out.

Food here is great, especially the pizza. We witnessed 4 kids eat a 30inch pizza to win a challenge and it was awesome. I especially like the Hawaiian pizza but the pepperoni is also very good. This location also has yard games out front and Pickleball courts in the back. It can be extremely busy so call ahead to see if there will be a wait.

Generous portions but all delicious! Come hungry and leave room in the fridge for left overs! They have a solid drink menu and an endless variety to choose from. This was my first time here but will be back when the weather warms up!

Place was crowded on a Friday night–to be expected, but some tables were so close together. And that, folks, was our one and only complaint. Everything else was great. Very impressed with serving sizes and quality. In this area we don’t have a ton of options for food, so this is a very welcome addition. Looking forward to coming back in the warmer months to enjoy some pickleball.

We are new to the area and wanted to try this place out based on reviews, photos and the outdoor area and happened to stumble into a charity event with a 100 + party. That paired with the Sunday open Mic on the lawn was chaos but our food came out fast, tasted amazing & our server Kayla hands down made the entire experience 110%.
