The legendary history of Diorio Restaurant began in the early 1920’s. The late Rocco Diorio was responsible for the fine traditional food and many lasting memories for most of the people in the greater Waterbury area. The restaurant was closed in 1980 and reopened in 1991 after total restoration to its original splendor.
The legend continues as we remain true to those endearing memories. We have the original marble bar, oversized mahogany bankers booths, tin ceiling and the most impressive acid etched mirrors displaying historical Waterbury.
Diorio Restaurant’s ambience, memories, history, and Northern Italian Nouvelle cuisine supply a new and exciting dining experience for the adventuresome palate.
Classic Italian cuisine matched by vintage tin ceilings, tile floors, a marble bar & roomy booths.

After much anticipation, my fiancé and I went to Diorio to celebrate our anniversary several months ago! This spot has been high on my list of restaurants to visit ever since they reopened after COVID and remodeling. The interior was so charming, with a classy vintage feel that I absolutely loved. The menu definitely had some good choices, and while everything we ordered was good, we did agree that we’ve had better. Mostly we thought my fiancé’s ribeye could’ve used more seasoning, but the truffle butter that he had with it definitely added to the flavor. The pasta with my chicken parm was a bit cold, so it must’ve been plated before the chicken. One of the highlights for us though was when the waitress came around with a platter to showcase their desserts – it helped us make our decision on the banana banoffee and chocolate cake. The banoffee was excellent, but the chocolate cake was a little dry. Overall, I do think this is a great option to have in downtown Waterbury, and I would still come back to try some other dishes. We came on a weeknight and were impressed to see that it got pretty busy at peak dinner time!

There was a middle waitress that was horrible on Valentine’s Day! She didn’t come by at all and didn’t check on us. She didn’t try to ensure we were okay and instead decided a two word answer would be okay when it took an hour for our food to get there. Yes the food tasted great…. But totally not worth an hour wait. Sad to have that be our experience. She will drive people away.

OMG!!! By far the BEST Italian restaurant I have EVER been too!!! The food was AMAZING!!! Absolutely AMAZING!!! Had the house Martini, clams casino, Chilean Seabass w/risotto, and my hubby had shrimp w/penne. I highly recommend this hidden gem!!! Tara was very helpful, and kind. We loved her too! They open @ 5pm, so lunch is a no go. Nice vibes…

We ate here 2 nights in a row during our stay in Waterbury for a family funeral. Once with a group of 12, and then with a group of 4. Service was some of the best I’ve experienced in a long time. The servers were on point, friendly, and knew their business! Drinks were well crafted, as were all the meals we ordered. Highly recommend! We had our meal cut short one evening due to a bomb threat. They graciously packed all uneaten meals quickly and were professional in getting guests evacuated quickly and safely.

This restaurant is definitely worth your time. Looks good, service is good and the food is excellent. I had the carpaccio, made with shaved filet mignon, very well prepared. Both the scarpariello and the shrimp scampy were very good. Drinks were good, and the beer was cold. Everyone there was nicely dressed, and no one was loud. I like a quiet place!

I took my wife there for special occasion. Made sure to let waiter know we were in no hurry. He was very respectful. His name was Art. We started the dinner with soup. French onion and lobster bisque. The bisque was the best ever. The French onion was superb. Apps were calimari and sausage and broccoli rabe. . Then penne ala vodka for her and veal Diorio for me with spinach and mashed potatoes. Very good. Desert was NY cheese cake and creme brulee. The cheese cake was average. If they ever had mine they we know what I am talking about. . This place takes you back in time . I would highly recommend.
