Review of Banh Mi Dinky Dao – Bend, OR
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Let me start with a firm declaration:
The Banh Mi is the undisputed king of sandwiches.

If you need proof, just picture this:
You step into a dimly lit alley behind your local deli. There, on the cold pavement, lies a hamburger—flattened, dazed, pickles askew, mumbling something about “not seeing it coming.” A few feet further in, a Philly cheesesteak sits hunched over, bruised and leaking provolone like a punctured radiator. A pastrami on rye is slumped against a dumpster, muttering about cilantro and pickled carrots. In the shadows, standing tall and unbothered, is the Banh Mi—crispy bread still intact, herbs sharp, flavor arsenal untouched. Regal. Dangerous. Victorious.

And Banh Mi Dinky Dao in Bend, Oregon? This is where the king trains.

I got the lemongrass pork banh mi: bold, vibrant, packed with texture and punch. My wife got the tofu banh mi, and I honestly couldn’t get a word out of her—just a stream of contented “mm-mm-mmm” sounds as she locked into some kind of food trance. I’ve learned not to interrupt her during these episodes unless I’m eager to lose a hand.

Portions are generous, ingredients are fresh, and every bite reaffirms that you’ve made the right life decision.

Banh Mi Dinky Dao doesn’t just serve sandwiches—it reminds you that sandwiches can still surprise you, can still knock the heavyweights out cold and walk away without a scratch.

Big recommend. Bow before the Queen.

The food itself was solid, but the customer service was extremely disappointing. During the evening shift on 1/9/25 around 6:30 p.m., the employee working the counter (female, short dark hair, healthy in stature, glasses), was dismissive and rude from the start. When my pregnant wife simply asked what meat options were available, she curtly pointed to the sign and said, “They’re on the sign,” rather than answering the question.

We placed our orders, and when our buzzer went off, one of the items was missing. Mistakes happen, so we calmly reordered and waited again. When the second order was ready and I went to pick it up, the employee accused me of being rude and then made an inappropriate, racially charged remark by calling me an “entitled white boy.”

There were numerous witness, and this behavior is completely unacceptable in any customer-facing role. It goes far beyond poor service and reflects a lack of basic professionalism and respect. I was extremely disappointed by the experience, and management should be aware of how customers are being treated.

Delicious Korean food, with several vegan options, right in the heart of downtown Bend! If you love spicy, try the vegan kimchi. We got the daily Dinky lunch special.

Delicious take out Vietnamese lunch.
We had the rice bowls with chicken and the tofu.
The slaw, kimchi and papaya salad are really good-cold, crisp, and seasoned perfectly.
They’re tucked away kitty corner from the post office downtown. Heads up only open 11-3 Monday thru Thurs but worth it for a quick bite while you’re downtown.

Awesome food. So good. I loved the ginger chicken sandwich I had with all their fixings. It was nice to sit outside and eat. Really full of flavor.

Eating a lemongrass pork bahn mi by the river, pretty stellar. Bread is crunchy on the edges and soft in the middle, meat has a great char and the spice level is great. Liking the jicama slaw too. I only waited 5min. I highly recommend this spot!

Sorry but the lemongrass pork banh mi was just ok. It seemed the meat was sauteed, not grilled, and just not very flavorful to me. There are other banh mis available in the Bend area that are better IMO. I’ll try again another time and revise my review if it changes. We definitely need more Asian food so wishing Dinky Dou the best and thanks for going for it.

One of my favorite meals I’ve had in Bend. I got the lemongrass pork bowl. Every element was done so dang well. The rice was light and fluffy, the pork was flavorful, the homemade kimchi and avacado salad were bomb. I’m pretty critical of food I buy these days, and I didn’t have a single complaint. Seriously. I too wish food costed the same as it did 6 years ago, but the times they are a changing, and by today’s standards, it was 100% worth the 17 bucks.. these negative comments are super lame

Love their sandwiches! Lemon grass pork with everything on it is my favorite. Always so delicious, sweet, spicy, crunchy, amazing bread, tender meat. . . Thanks for working so hard and bringing Bend great food at great prices. Love the new location.
