Dining Car #423 was an interesting dining experience with the restaurant situated inside of an old Pacific Railroad station. The interior was beautifully restored.

The food left a bit to be desired. I will say that the fried green tomatoes w/ remoulade sauce and the stuffed mushrooms were absolutely fantastic! However, the Tuscan Mac and cheese had an overwhelming amount of thyme. I enjoy thyme but it was just too much. The Margherita pizza crust was not crisp in the least but rather soft and soggy.

We also experienced some menu confusion as the reviews show items including scallops and steak but neither of those items were on the rather small menu that we received. The online menu also varies from the actual restaurant menu so that too is confusing.

Overall, the appetizers were worth trying and I may return at some point and try different menu items but based off of first experience it is not a place that I would frequently return to.

The atmosphere in the place is great! love the decor and drink and food choices were great! My wife and I had the gyro and shrimp po boy which were delicious. The time it took to get these two things I thought was a bit lengthy. But I have read they fresh make everything so I kind of get why for fresh shrimp and fresh quinoa salad it may take a bit. Hopefully next time it is a little bit more timely though. I would most definitely recommend the stuffed mushrooms they were so good! My wife’s gyro meat was a little overdone crispy on the ends with some good char. 🙁

Nice little spot. Seems to be pretty new. Enjoyable experience with room to grow.

Tight little dining space with no music or sound control, so be comfortable with everyone hearing your conversation 🙂

Cute decor…stopped just a bit short of knocking it out of the park. A few more investments in furniture, artwork, and ambiance will set this place apart.

Menu was impressive for a small town like Fergus Falls…imaginative for the area. Solid cocktail, beer, and wine list as well (I’m definitely going to come back to the bar for drinks soon).

Service was a little slow, but friendly. Food was fresh and tastey. Nothing that blew me away, but I definitely wouldn’t hesitate to come back.

If you’re in FF and looking for something a bit different than the majority of local pizza or American fair…this would be a good choice.

Today we tried brunch at Dining Car 423 and were absolutely blown away! We both ordered the shrimp and grits – delicious! We also had their Bloody Mary – phenomenal! The staff was awesome and extremely helpful. Already looking forward to going back again soon. Hidden gem in Fergus Falls.

If you haven’t been here, you need the be! Anyone who is seeking authentic New Orleans Cajun gumbo, this is the place in Minnesota. My mind was blown! Chef Digby is truly amazing with what he prepared was the most authentic food I’ve had since I last visited NOLA. I’m so very happy it’s where I live and I’ll definitely be back!

Fantastic place. Charming. Great service. Food was well priced and super tasty. As a weary traveler this was the perfect place to stop. Beer flights were only $8! You will not regret stopping in!

Was recommended by Fergus Falls Brewery. Zero expectations. Enjoyed the history. The sampler was alright. Came out cold, but Jaden, the waiter was quick to warm it up. Food coming out fast and cold is not a good sign. Cajun creole food is a staple leftover, but the foods temp signals a death in the window or poor logistics with batched food. The spice and heat were appreciated, especially for an upper midwestern city. Credit for diversifying palates.

The sidecar was interesting. Something was off. Different than minneapolis/st. paul sidecars. Wasn’t bad only an unanticipated flavor profile. Also very orange in color.

Deserves a second chance, another menu item.

Found this place as we headed east b/w ND and Wis. Ambience is top-notch. Food (gyro and Mac&Cheese) was superb. Local live music added to a wonderful experience. Major plus is the renovated depot and the ties to the railroad.

Ambiance is beautiful historic small space but not if you have allergies or sensitive to smells. They had incense which was difficult. Food was ok but not fantastic, service was friendly.
