What a way to wrap up a week-long trip from LA to Maui! We hit Din Tai Fung in Downtown Seattle on a local recommendation, and it exceeded every expectation.
Pro-Tip: Arrive early! We got there at 4:30 PM for a “4.5 person” table (shoutout to the 9-month-old!) and beat the massive rush that starts after 5:00 PM.
The Food Highlights:
Xiao Long Bao: Absolute perfection. The gold standard.
Spicy Wontons & Garlic String Beans: Fresh, flavorful, and a must-order.
Noodle Heaven: We tried the Sesame Noodles and the Spicy Sauce Noodles—both were fantastic.
Drinks: The Lychee Martini is refreshing and well-crafted.
Save Room for Dessert:
Don’t skip the Chocolate and Sesame-filled dumplings! The sesame was the table favorite, but the Chocolate Bar Buns are a total game-changer.
Located in a trendy spot near the cinema and shops. Perfect for a dinner date or a family outing.

Starting with the xiao long bao – what they’re famous for – these were solid. The outside was very good, having a soft skin and clearly hand-breaded. I did think the soup on inside was kind of lacking though; there wasn’t much inside. But in each of the types of dumplings that I had (pork, chicken, and crab), the meat filling was indeed very good inside. The pork and crab were particularly great.
The wontons I liked less. The spicy sauce wasn’t really that spicy, and the dough tastes a little harder with the filling being less juicy than the dumplings. I had both the pork and chicken wontons but wasn’t a huge fan.
I had a couple pork appetizers/sides as well. The baby back ribs were really good, being juicy and that sweet glaze was a perfect coating. The pork chop wasn’t as good though – it was pretty dry. Not a huge fan of the green beans either
As far as traditional mains, the chicken fried rice was exceptional. The rice gave off a great umami, MSG-infused flavor with both the eggs and chicken being incorporated super well. I think the fried rice might’ve actually been my favorite part of the meal. I did not like the fried noodles though, they were kind of tough and tasted pretty bland.
Lastly, for dessert, I had the mango shaved ice and chocolate mochi dumplings. Both were very good. The chocolate dumplings in particular were actually much better than the last time I had it – in these the chocolate was melted super well and practically goozed out of the dumpling at the first hole. The mango shaved ice was super sweet, yet still generally held its shape despite being mostly ice.
The meal ended up being very expensive due to the amount of sharing. That’s the one thing about this place – for each dish, the portions are pretty small, so you need to end up ordering a lot for the table to make everything worth it.
Overall, it’s an expensive place, but it’s got a pretty unique experience and I really enjoyed some of these dishes. 8/10
I really love the vegan buns — they’re so soft with a flavorful filling. My friends usually prefer the wontons/noodles over the buns, but I want BOTH! The desserts are also fantastic. The chocolate, taro, and sesame xiao long bao are all good, and I’ve had many debates about which flavor is best. I personally love the taro (though I know it’s not for everyone). The chocolate buns are great too, but I prefer the dessert xiao long bao overall.
On the non-vegan side, I’ve tried the fried rice and it was excellent as well. I don’t usually like green tea, but their green tea with boba and sea salt foam is SO good — the sea salt foam is heavenly.
One thing I wasn’t fan of was the wood ear mushroom. The texture is not something I normally prefer.
I’m never disappointed with the service either. Consistently great food and experience every time!
✨ Din Tai Fung — Seattle Magic in Every Bite! ✨
From the very first bite, this meal was pure dumpling heaven! The Kurobuta Pork Xiao Long Bao and Chicken Xiao Long Bao were piping hot, bursting with rich, delicate broth, and folded with perfection — a true taste of craftsmanship and tradition.
The Garlic String Beans were crisp, flavorful, and felt like the healthiest kind of indulgence — the perfect balance beside those juicy dumplings. But the real MVP? The Pork Chop Fried Rice — flawlessly seasoned, golden, and fluffy with just the right amount of egg ✨ The pork chops were cooked to perfection — tender, juicy, and bursting with umami.
I stepped out of my comfort zone with the Pear Lychee Martini — light, refreshing, and beautiful — and yes, it even gave a happy buzz! Their Signature Old Fashioned was smooth, balanced, and the ideal pairing for this luxurious meal
For dessert, the Chocolate & Matcha Dumplings were divine — rich chocolate wrapped in a soft mochi hug, finished with a touch of matcha for a sweet, grounding end Absolute bliss.
Huge shout-out to Mathew, our server — knowledgeable, kind, and clearly passionate about the menu. He’s been with Din Tai Fung for 4 years and guided us perfectly

Located near University Village — easy to reach by bus or car, and perfect to pair with a movie or shopping trip ️
This is where culture, craftsmanship, and comfort collide. A must-visit spot in Seattle’s food scene

The cucumber salad was refreshing and lightly spicy, a great balance to the richer dishes. The braised pork ribs were tender, glossy, and packed with sweet-savory flavor — super comforting and satisfying.
Service was fast, friendly, and very organized even when it was busy. A bit pricey, but the quality and consistency make it worth it.
