All were true when I visited the other day (2/25). The atmosphere is very loud, so I can understand why the barista would shout out the orders
However, if nearly every customer you have is having a hard time hearing their order, perhaps a change is needed.
The real issue I had was the barista yelling at my mother to not take her mug outside. There is a lot of outdoor seating and no signage, that I could see, asking you not to take the mugs to the outdoor seating. A simple, “Excuse me maam, the mugs can’t go outside, sorry!” would have been better than, “Don’t take the mug outside!” I get it, it’s part of a nature reserve or something and you don’t want broken mugs, but a little kindness goes a long way. If there are no signs up, may I suggest them? They wanted to charge her for a paper cup to go sit outside… with the incredibly mediocre coffee. The lady taking orders was kind, friendly, and patient. Maybe the barista was having a bad day.
This location is also excellent to visit in Spring/Summer. It sits right next to Mercer Slough. In springtime it’s fun to watch the baby ducklings following their mamas around. In summer they open up all the windows and there is outdoor seating and some lawn/patio games.
First off, the coffee was nothing special. Sure, the view is decent, but the place was overcrowded and the entire outdoor area was covered in goose poop — not exactly the relaxing vibe I was hoping for.
But the most ridiculous part? They tried to charge me 80 cents for a tiny hot cup. Just the cup. I wasn’t even asking for hot water — just the smallest empty hot cup. The barista gave me this look like I was asking for something outrageous, then said they “normally don’t give out cups” and told me it’d be 80 cents. Are you serious? It’s just a paper cup! And this was after I had already bought other drinks.
The attitude was cold, dismissive, and downright rude. It felt like they couldn’t care less about customers. After this experience, I’m never coming back — and I’ll be telling others to avoid this place too.
I like this place. There are some tables outside, table for small and big companies inside, and some games. They serve good hot chocolate, sandwiches, salads and other dishes available after 10:30 am.
However, you can find some dishes ans cold canned and bottled beverages in the open fridge, if you came earlier.
Enjoy the pond view, because they have large panoramic windows.
I was the only customer ordering something and while I was waiting I stayed at the “order” location as I was looking at their different treat offerings. After my coffee was done the barista put the coffee waaaay on the other side of the counter in the “pickup” location. This place is cavernous and I barely heard her call out my coffee type – she didn’t bother facing me when she said it.
Now, why on earth – if I’m the only customer – don’t you either hand me my coffee or at least face in my direction to say it’s ready? I get why a place is more automated during busy times, but when it’s not why not act like you aren’t a robot and put some actual human behavior into your interaction. If you simply put the coffee in the same spot every time, regardless if customer even notices, like done robot, then I’ll tip you as if you are a robot. I’m tired of this behavior…
