The pulled pork sandwich featured, tender, and juicy meat, making it a stand out dish accompanying the sandwich was nicely fried okra which added a delightful crunch to the meal. The coleslaw provided a refreshing contrast perfectly complimenting the rich flavors of the pork to top it all off the spicy barbecue sauce was the bees knees. The combination created a delicious and satisfying dining experience.

I travel for work and have eaten barbecue all over the country and food all over the world. From major cities to roadside joints, I’ve tried it all. Nothing compares to this Dickey’s.
The brisket is cooked with patience and respect, the ribs are balanced and honest, and the smoke flavor is exactly what real barbecue is supposed to taste like. This isn’t fast food pretending to be barbecue. It’s the real thing, done right, every single time.
I also had the chance to run into the owner during my visit, and he’s one of the best kinds of people. Genuine, hardworking, and proud of what he serves. That alone tells you why this place stands out.
If you’re passing through or visiting from out of state, this place alone is worth the stop.

This place was a disaster from the moment I walked in. The food tasted like it had lost a fight with a microwave hours before it ever reached my table — dry, bland, and nowhere near worth the price. I’ve had gas station BBQ that put this to shame.
But honestly, the food wasn’t even the worst part. The people were.
Dealing with the owner was like dealing with someone who actively resents the existence of customers. Every question felt like an inconvenience, every request was met with pure attitude.
And then there was Carolyn.
I don’t know what role she plays there, but if it’s “ruining the experience,” she deserves Employee of the Year. She was unbelievably rude — eye rolls, snappy responses, the whole cold-shoulder performance like she’s auditioning for a villain role in a low-budget soap opera. I’ve never encountered someone so committed to making customers feel unwelcome.
By the time I left, I felt like I needed to sage myself to get the negativity off.
Save yourself the headache. There are plenty of BBQ places that serve actual food and don’t treat their customers like an inconvenience.

There are restaurants that serve barbecue, and then there are places where barbecue is still treated like a discipline. This Dickey’s is the latter.
From the moment you walk in, the smell tells you everything you need to know: wood smoke, rendered fat, slow heat, and time. Not shortcuts. Not gimmicks. Time. The kind of time most places don’t want to spend anymore. This is barbecue that’s been watched, not rushed.
The brisket is the standard by which everything else should be judged. Tender without falling apart, smoky without bitterness, and sliced with confidence because when meat is cooked right, you don’t need to hide it under sauce. Each bite carries that deep, honest flavor that only comes from proper low and slow cooking. No tricks. No excuses.
The ribs are exactly what ribs are supposed to be. Firm enough to remind you this came from an animal, but yielding enough to pull clean with a bite. The smoke ring isn’t for show. It’s earned. And the seasoning hits that perfect balance where salt enhances instead of dominates.
Sides matter at real barbecue joints, and they matter here. The mac and cheese is rich without being sloppy. The beans taste like they’ve been absorbing smoke and drippings all day because they have. Even the simplest sides are handled with care, which tells you everything about how the pit is being run.
But what really separates this place is consistency. Anyone can have a good day. This shop delivers reliability, which in barbecue is sacred. It tells you the pit is respected, the process is understood, and the people running it actually give a damn.
This isn’t trendy barbecue. It’s not trying to impress Instagram.
It’s feeding people the way barbecue was meant to be made. Slow, heavy, and honest.
If you want barbecue that tastes like effort, discipline, and pride, this is where you go.
Everything else is just meat with marketing.

It’s usually hard to find good bbq around here, but Dickeys is by far one of the best in town. Greeted by friendly staff, letting you taste test before purchasing. The place itself is clean and setting very friendly. Food was great, well proportioned with a variety to choose from for the money. Mac and cheese was fire with no burnt or crunchy pieces in it (I hate that).

The best I can say is that our visit was OK. Good, but not great. I had a brisket sandwich with a side of cabbage slaw. The slaw was very fresh and crisp and was very enjoyable. The brisket meat was unlike any I had either seen in a restaurant or made myself. The portion was generous with little fat. It was a little dry and the meat was a little crumbly. The meat had an overall reddish tint to it. I’m used to seeing brisket as a greyish pink color with a little shine to it from fat. This brisket was dull with no shine. I can’t prove it, but I think this was leftover from last night. My wife had a beef burnt end sandwich. She commented that it was good, but it wasn’t exactly burnt ends. It was just chopped brisket with little of it burnt. She liked her Caesar side salad, but for the price she felt the portion was a bit chintzy. The fountain sodas were good and there were plenty of condiments available. When we left, two older couples (like us) ordered and the cashier offered them a senior discount. This was not offered to us, but maybe we looked a lot younger? Cashier was apparently new. She didn’t ring up my wife’s side salad and she rang up two identical brisket sandwiches instead. Regardless we spent about $27. The cashier’s manicured nails were way too long to wear in a food service environment, we thought. The manager came out to the dining area with his laptop but sat in the back. He didn’t greet anyone or ask how our food was. The store was very clean. Brown paper towel rolls and hand sanitizer were on each table. Last bite: Their rewards app wouldn’t accept our receipt to give us rewards points. This Dickey’s isn’t as good as Mission BBQ by comparison. We’ll try this location again.

Well. The prices are not worth it. When you pay over $13 for just a barbecue sandwich. LOUSY, not fully cooked fries and a drink, it isn’t worth it. They didn’t keep up with anything. There were no forks and several employees came and got drinks which are right next to the place for forks, but nope. The trash can had a bag of finished food that was on top of the hole and it was ignored. They all had plenty of time to disappear in the back, but no time to take care of simple things when THE PLACE WAS EMPTY. The barbecue wasn’t as great as usual and had too much hard skin attached inedible. The fries were WAY OVER seasoned, undercooked. Also, on a corporate level, this place needs ranch dressing for the kids chicken nuggets. Other than sauces most kids don’t want, they literally said ” there’s ketchup around the side”… for Chicken nuggets? It wasn’t exactly a friendly environment and we were the only people in the whole place. Can’t recommend waste of money.

The wife was craving BBQ. We picked Dickey’s for the location, and I am familiar from visiting a franchise store in Topeka. I ordered the large salad with meat, choosing the pulled pork. My Sweets ordered the large baked potato with pulled pork. As a side, I got the fried okra. Salad, okay. Baked potato was huge and reportedly cooked very well. The okra was like licking an ashtray. I am including a picture. The young lady that took our order seemed like she would have preferred to have been anywhere but there. Don’t know if I’ll be back. Maybe for a potato.

The service here was VERY slow. The employees were about as enthused as a deer on opening day. The meat was cold and we had to substitute because our choice wasn’t ready without another 10 minute wait. There were only three other customers in the restaurant and the employees could not keep up. The gal prepping the meat used gloves with grease on them and opened the meat warmer (that obviously wasn’t working) and took the meat out with the sane hands then cut the meat using a cutter and the same dirty gloves. The walls were filthy and the doors were filthy and several tables were filthy and the floors were filthy and it was just gross. Instead of cleaning when the orders had been fulfilled the employees went into hiding and were just gone. At the end of the review I can say the okra was good. I wish the ice cream self serve had been working. Maybe that would have been good. The mac n cheese looked like coagulated milk. Ugh
