It’s a shame I can’t leave a lower rating. I had an absolutely terrible experience here at Dick O’ Dow’s. The food was disgusting, none of the ingredients were fresh.
My salad had canned corn and jalapeños on it, the avacado was old, and the dressing was watered down, no flavor. The french fries, chicken wings, and chicken tenders were frozen from a box and just thrown in a fryer. They didn’t even taste like they bothered to let to food fry long enough. The slider my son had as gross, luckily he’s 5 and doesn’t know any better, however he still didn’t want to eat it.
When we addressed this the server, who was new, she was kind enough. But then the owner, Mitch I believe, came out and refused to make any accommodations for the disgusting food. He got loud and boisterous with us, spoke down to us, and was even so bold as to claim that they have never had any complaints the whole time he’s owned the place. Needless to say I’ll never take my family to this place again.
YOU should stear clear as well. This business needs to fail as it’s a blemish on the prestige that comes from owning a business in the beautiful city of Birmingham. Find somewhere else in the two minute walk it would take to go somewhere else.

Marissa is the best! You can only usually find her during the week behind the bar for lunch, but if you go and see her you are guaranteed great service and a yummy lunch! If you are going here later, beware because the restaurant staff in the evening has kicked us out/closed up on several occasions; even though their google hours say they are open until later times. one time we were told to leave at 10pm even though they closed at 11pm according to their hours . I learned to go during the day not at night and you will not be disappointed!

My experience last night will be the last time I ever attend. Our waitress, Amy, mistakenly gave my fiancé someone elses drink. After she drank it we figured out it was another persons in our party. She swapped with the correct drink. I said “If you are going to throw the drink away, just leave it so it doesn’t go to waste.” Her response was “We’re not going to throw it away.” As she saw the surprise on my face she realize she said something she shouldn’t have. She then made up some excuse about not being able to leave you two drinks at the table. She brought the drink back behind the bar, waited some time and brought the exact same glass to the woman in our party which the drink was meant for. WITH THE LIPSTICK STAINS STILL ON IT. Immediately this was called out. Absolutely DISGUSTING. This place reuses used cups and alcohol to save a buck. Her service was also awful. She forgot to bring some of our food and still tried to charge for it. After 4 times asking for glasses of water and never receiving them. I was watching her behind the bar. She had a dirty napkin and accidentally dropped it into a pitcher of water. She quickly took it out and then filled peoples waters with the pitcher she just dropped a napkin into. This is the dirtiest place I have ever been. I will be contacting the Health Department about this. It all happened between 8-8:30. Do not come to this dump.

We hosted a private birthday event at this venue with nearly 100 guests and total expenditures well into the thousands. Based on the pricing and reputation of this establishment, we expected a professional, respectful environment. That was not the experience provided.
I assisted significantly in organizing and decorating this event. At one point, a staff member approached me and asked who was in charge. I explained that I was helping coordinate, but that the host was my brother-in-law. A member of your security team then referred to the host in a profane and derogatory manner in front of others, commenting on his appearance. That comment alone was shocking and completely unacceptable in any professional setting.
There were no clearly communicated policies or expectations prior to the event. Throughout the evening, multiple staff and security members conducted themselves in a way that guests independently described as rude, dismissive, and hostile. Numerous guests approached us expressing discomfort with staff behavior.
When we attempted to clarify simple procedures — including cutting our own birthday cake — responses were inconsistent. One security staff member stated that “the rules change every day,” which reflects a concerning lack of training, structure, and internal accountability.
An event that should have felt celebratory instead felt tense and uncomfortable due to staff conduct and poor management.
This level of behavior at a venue pricing itself at a premium standard is unacceptable.
I would appreciate direct follow-up from management regarding how this is being addressed.

Staying in the area and this was one of the few affordable options. Friendly, efficient service, good food – fish and chips was very good and a generous size. Old Speckled Hen (beer) was pretty good.

Luckily the food saved the visit. The woman behind the bar couldn’t have been less interested in seeing us and there was only one other person to start. Bbq flatbread and curds were awesome. Apple cider margarita average. Could have shaken to give it flavor versus me mixing with a straw. For 74 buck lunch a smile goes a long way.

I am glad to see more people writing about how horrible the owners are. Don’t give your business to this place, food and atmosphere is mid to below average. I have watched the owners absolutely scream at their staff and customers in the middle of the dining room.

Had a terrible lunch at Dick O’Dow’s today. The BLT salad had “Bacos” all over the salad (not real bacon) and a terrible salad dressing. The chicken wraps with arugula were all arugula and barely any chicken. Also no Gluten free buns!
The music was blaring at times! Just an awful experience!!! We don’t make that mistake again!
