For our main courses, I had the filet mignon and my wife had the salmon both were truly delicious and prepared to perfection. Stephanie served as our sommelier and was brilliant at helping us pick out the perfect wine pairing to complement our meal. We were seated in the Library, which provided a super romantic and intimate atmosphere that made the night feel even more special. Everything about the evening was absolutely phenomenal, and we will definitely be back!
Nina, the mixologist, made the whole experience even better — her cocktails are thoughtful, well-balanced, and you can tell she really cares about what she does. And Danielle was wonderful: friendly, attentive, and easy to talk to without ever being over the top.
For a first visit, everything hit exactly right. This place definitely feels like a local gem we’re glad we found — and we’ll absolutely be back.
The tidbit tray was full of some interesting takes on the classics as well as some unusual offerings. We loved the bacon topped deviled eggs and the smoked salmon crostini particularly. The preparation of the single large single shrimp in the “shrimp salad” was spot on, a tiny bit more mango in the “salad” would have given better balance to the green pepper. The mini bowl of bbq chicken served as a cold dish was brilliantly done.
The “needs improvement” in the savories goes to the cucumber sandwiches. It is such a traditional, classic item that anything less than a proper British preparation is a disappointment. The cucumbers need to be extremely thinly sliced and the crusts get cut off after the sandwich is made. Nothing should hang out of the bread. The curried mayonnaise was a nice change and very tasty.
The wide range of sweets offerings were lovely. The cheesecake and the mini canoli specificly. The overuse of almond extract in the macrons was noticeable but the texture and mouth feel were perfect. The lemon scones were the least successful item on the plate. They were not properly risen and the texture was wrong. A scone should be risen enough to be split to put the butter or cream and jam or curd on it. There was neither butter, nor cream served, though the lemon curd was extremely good.
The sparkling wine (Cava) was so nice to sit down to after traveling a ways. Had we not been continuing down the road I would have had a second glass.
The staff was so accommodating as to show us an entry that didn’t require any stairs as our knees are not what they used to be. The library was dark paneled and felt very English in its appointments. There was a wedding taking place on the lawn which leant a festive and fun air to the entire afternoon and we got the first look at the bride! The setting on the shores of Seneca Lake was just stunning.
We’d love to come back for a longer visit and to try dinner in the restaurant as well as revisit the tea service.
We hadn’t realized it was a sparkling tea so we got a flute of sparkling wine to go with the tea. I had a Brut from Spain and my partner had a Non-Alcoholic from Napa that she loved.
The garden was covered in snow so it was delightful to sit in the window and look out at the quiet scenery with the lake the in background.
We also got a peek in the library room, which we will have to book sometime for a dinner with friends.
Attentive hostesses and a varied menu. Came for two dinners and a Sunday buffet while staying in the area and had a wonderful experience for all.
