Di Bari’s – Matawan, NJ
I walked into Di Bari’s for one thing: the bar pie. What I didn’t expect was a full lineup of elevated, abundant, and reasonably priced dinner specials that turned my quick stop into a full-on feast. This place is absolutely not just a pizzeria.
I started with the stuffed zucchini appetizer—so fresh and flavorful—and the pork osso buco, which was tender, comforting, and honestly restaurant-quality. From there I tasted the Tuscan haddock, the chicken balsamico, and the pappardelle… every single dish was delicious. Portions are generous too, so come hungry. I left stuffed in the best way.
The bar pie? Amazing. Thin, crispy, full of flavor—exactly the kind of pie that deserves attention. Dave Portnoy, you need to get down to Matawan for this one.
Another fun surprise: they carry L&B Spumoni by the quart and Nasto’s gelato, which is such a treat to see on the menu.
They also have a private room for parties and gatherings
If you’re in the area, definitely come for the bar pie—but stay for dinner. You’ll love it just as much as I did.

This place usually has excellent Sicilian pizza; however I feel like the quality has started to go downhill along with the customer service. 2nd time we had an issue with our recent orders. Our pizza was completely burnt and not edible. Not sure how they would let something out their door like this- outside is completely black

Food was delicious and service was excellent. Fresh salads, great pasta sauces and chicken perfectly seasoned and grilled. The specials were unique but we ordered off the regular menu. All around great place for casual Italian cuisine. Will revisit soon.

Amazing food, amazing people! DiBaris is easily the best pizzeria around. Their food is phenomenal and they have such a nice area to dine in. We came for dinner last week and our server, Julia, was so polite and provided such amazing service for our dinner! Since then, we’ve ordered for pickup and the food was just as good as dining in! We hadn’t eaten here since the old owner many years ago and decided to try it out again and we were extremely pleased and will definitely be back!

The best Sicilian pie there perfect for a Friday night. DiBari’s is my go to stop and is always spot on with everything they serve.

Customer service felt quite unwelcoming. I greeted the staff with a “good evening,” but unfortunately wasn’t acknowledged, then came a girl and asked how she could help. My toddler needed to use the restroom, and although I understand they needed to wait until we finished to heat up our order, the overall experience just didn’t feel great especially for my first visit. I hope things improve, as I was looking forward to enjoying this place.

I decided to order dinner from here after getting home from the city. When I first walked in, I was told the food wasn’t ready yet, which I completely understood since they were busy. I waited a bit and went back in to pay. I used a 10% coupon card and paid the remaining balance with Apple Pay. The payment went through, and I left. As I was about to pull out of the driveway, I received a call saying there was an “issue with the payment,” so I went back inside to see what was going on. I spoke with the same girl who checked out my order, and she told me that the payment didn’t go through and that I still owed the remaining balance. I opened my Apple Wallet and showed her that the payment was approved and already completed. She said she was confused and went to get her manager. I don’t know his name, but he told me he couldn’t close out the system unless I paid again. I showed him my Apple Pay confirmation showing the $52.10 charge, but he kept saying the system showed that I hadn’t paid. He then mentioned a 3% credit card fee and said I still owed money, even though I explained that I used my debit card through Apple Pay. He then asked me to call my bank, which made no sense since I had already shown clear proof of payment from both Apple Pay and my bank. I refused to call my bank because I had already paid for my meal and had proof of it. At that point, he was asking me to pay for my dinner a second time. He then asked me to wait while he called their food tech support, which was extremely frustrating and embarrassing. I was made to stand there while my food got cold. I waited about 10–15 minutes while he was on the phone trying to confirm that I had paid. Since it was taking so long, I gave the cashier my phone number and told her I was leaving and that they could call me if there was still an issue. About 10 minutes after I got home, they called and apologized, explaining that there had been a lag in their system. This was extremely poor customer service. I was accused of not paying, asked to pay a second time, and made to wait long enough for my food to get cold—all because of an issue with their system. I like to support local businesses, but this entire situation was unbelievable and handled very poorly. Even after I showed proof of payment multiple times, I was still treated as if I was at fault. What made this even worse was that the manager never apologized to me directly. Instead, he had the cashier call me later to apologize for the issue. As a business owner or manager, he should have taken responsibility and handled that himself. The problem was clearly their system, yet there was no accountability at the time it happened. This experience was extremely frustrating, embarrassing, unprofessional, and completely avoidable.

We had such a great experience here! The place has a warm, inviting vibe that makes you want to sit back and relax.
We started with the tomato, mozzarella salad, honestly, it was the perfect way to kick things off. The tomatoes were super fresh and flavorful, and the mozzarella was so creamy it practically melted on the plate.
For my main, I went with Chicken Natalia. The sauce was light but flavorful, and the veggies on the side were fresh and not overcooked.
Service was friendly and attentive without hovering, and everything came out at a good pace. Prices were fair. You can tell they put thought into both the food and the experience.
Overall, I’d definitely recommend this spot if you’re looking for a place with great food, good vibes, and a little extra care in the details.

It was our first time dining out as a family, and we enjoyed the cozy atmosphere and friendly service. We started with mussels marinara and a rice ball, which were decent. For the main courses, we had shrimp fra diavolo with linguini and chicken Francese with capellini, among other dishes. The food was good, but it took quite a while to arrive.
