They have better selection of drinks that you would expect and prices are very reasonable, especially as for the French Quarter.
The only reason why I rated it 4*, I do really prefer my food served in a not chipped tableware.
Atmosphere was okay- definitely a spot that is more about the food! Very very loud.
I enjoyed the shrimp and crawfish dumplings. I’ve never seen that before. They were huge dumplings I’m not used to seeing. The taste was great too.
Hot n sour soup was a surprise. I have a general baseline for this type of soup as they can all taste the same but this one was a great balance of sour and savory. The soup itself is a meal in its own since it comes with a lot in it.
Lastly, the jianbing was great. I haven’t had one since I’ve been to Chicago, and this one was just as good as the one I found in Chinatown. The braised beef was tender and I loved the sweet sauce they put in it.
A huge plus with Dian Xin was their anime theme. They were playing anime intro songs all day and had Jojo on.
What I personally enjoy most are the dumplings and dim sum offerings — juicy soup dumplings and creative crabmeat & crawfish baos often steal the show — paired with solid staples like wonton soup, stir-fried noodles, and basil popcorn chicken. The dishes are fresh, flavorful, and just different enough from the usual New Orleans fare you find in the French Quarter.
While some folks find the menu a bit mixed or the experience simple compared to big city Chinese food, for me Dian Xin hits a sweet spot of comforting Asian comfort food right in the heart of New Orleans. It’s a fun, lighter-hearted meal choice when you want something tasty and satisfying — dim sum with personality.
