Though i hope the place looked more clean.
Service was timely and fine on a weekday before closing time.
Really spectacular sushi and so many vegetarian and vegan options that weren’t just some combo of cucumber/carrot/avocado.
First off, this is hands-down THE BEST Japanese restaurant in HRM (besides Sushi Shige in Halifax’s north end). The food is excellent..it is good quality, very fresh and presented nicely. And very delicious! I recommend the Agedashi Tofu!
The service was excellent and very friendly.
However, the ambiance is unsettling and a bit sad. Please, please clean up the counter area in front of the sushi chef! Please put your boxes and cleaning supplies in a closet or behind a screen somewhere! It is very messy and makes the customer feel that the owners don’t care about how their establishment looks. It even made me worry that the food would not be good quality. (Thankfully it was good) or that the kitchen is unsanitary. I want you to do well and improve your business.
Also, it would be really nice to add a decoration ontop of the tables, like little lamps and little vases of fresh flowers (u can buy mini carnations for cheap at Sobeys).
Dharma is the first place I have ever eaten sushi about 26 years ago. Hideki owned it then. Pioneer in Halifax Sushi.
I like the basics when it comes to sushi and this delivered 100%. Cheap sushi plate was $14.95 with SOUP and SALAD. Rice was perfect.
I added some gyoza but almost too much food.
Everything was great and service was 10/10. So friendly and welcoming.
Came here because it seemed most of the other sushi restaurants nearby didn’t have a wide selection of sashimi. The chef’s selected nigiri sushi dish had: salmon, tuna, mackerel (saba), red snapper (tai), cooked eel (unagi), scallop (hotate), Japanese clam (hokkigai), cooked octopus, yellow tail (hamachi), and shrimp.
The hamachi didn’t look quite right and seemed to just be a cut of tuna but the sushi chef personally assured us that it was indeed hamachi, just cut so that somehow the characteristic red portion was missing.
More than the sushi, two things that stood out were the seaweed wrapping for the maki (nori) and miso soup. The nori had a deep umami scent and had a nice, thick mouth feel. The miso soup also had a unique umami that did NOT taste like cheap restaurant miso stock.
Overall the nigiri we had tasted ok, but the fish was cut thin and the cuts were slightly small.
The green tea is good. Costs a dollar (but only a dollar).
In terms of sake, they only serve your standard house Gekkeikan (hot or iced).
Will definitely return to this little family owned place. Added to my must visit when I return to Halifax.
One of the standout features of Dharma Sushi is their lunch specials. Not only are they delicious, but they are also very affordable, making it a perfect spot for a midday meal. Whether you’re grabbing a quick bite during your lunch break or enjoying a leisurely meal with friends, the variety and quality of the lunch specials will not disappoint.
The atmosphere is modern and inviting, with a friendly staff that makes you feel right at home. Plus, they offer a range of options to cater to different dietary needs, including vegan and gluten-free choices.
Overall, Dharma Sushi is a fantastic choice for anyone craving fresh, delicious sushi at a great price. Highly recommended!
