The salmon was average quality. Overall okay rolls.
Though i hope the place looked more clean.
Service was timely and fine on a weekday before closing time.

Absolutely wonderful. The sushi was SO good (carried out and dining in) and the staff were so kind. I went here three times while in Halifax for a week. They were beyond accommodating of dietary restrictions and preferences, too – when I dined in and we ordered one miso soup vegan, the staff checked in on a vegetarian-but-not-vegan roll we ordered to make sure we knew there was mayo in it, and would we like it left off? When I ordered one miso soup without green onions, the staff let us know that one of the sushis ordered had green onions, and would we like them omitted?

Really spectacular sushi and so many vegetarian and vegan options that weren’t just some combo of cucumber/carrot/avocado.

I used to be a Dharma Sushi regular from when it opened in the late 90s. I know it has changed hands a couple times, so I will review what I know currently.

First off, this is hands-down THE BEST Japanese restaurant in HRM (besides Sushi Shige in Halifax’s north end). The food is excellent..it is good quality, very fresh and presented nicely. And very delicious! I recommend the Agedashi Tofu!

The service was excellent and very friendly.

However, the ambiance is unsettling and a bit sad. Please, please clean up the counter area in front of the sushi chef! Please put your boxes and cleaning supplies in a closet or behind a screen somewhere! It is very messy and makes the customer feel that the owners don’t care about how their establishment looks. It even made me worry that the food would not be good quality. (Thankfully it was good) or that the kitchen is unsanitary. I want you to do well and improve your business.

Also, it would be really nice to add a decoration ontop of the tables, like little lamps and little vases of fresh flowers (u can buy mini carnations for cheap at Sobeys).

While on Argyle Street Friday, I wanted a quick bite and chose Dharma. It has been several years since I have eaten there.

Dharma is the first place I have ever eaten sushi about 26 years ago. Hideki owned it then. Pioneer in Halifax Sushi.

I like the basics when it comes to sushi and this delivered 100%. Cheap sushi plate was $14.95 with SOUP and SALAD. Rice was perfect.

I added some gyoza but almost too much food.

Everything was great and service was 10/10. So friendly and welcoming.

It’s definitely a hidden gem in Halifax. Delicious Japanese sashimi and tempura. It’s a cozy family run restaurant in the heart of Halifax downtown. As a parent, I was so delighted to see their young teenage kid to help out serving us during the prime busy hours. My favourite was their steamed egg custard, while the butter fish sashimi was impressive too. Wish them every success.

tl;dr Japanese family-owned sushi restaurant with a wider variety of fish than other restaurants in the area.

Came here because it seemed most of the other sushi restaurants nearby didn’t have a wide selection of sashimi. The chef’s selected nigiri sushi dish had: salmon, tuna, mackerel (saba), red snapper (tai), cooked eel (unagi), scallop (hotate), Japanese clam (hokkigai), cooked octopus, yellow tail (hamachi), and shrimp.

The hamachi didn’t look quite right and seemed to just be a cut of tuna but the sushi chef personally assured us that it was indeed hamachi, just cut so that somehow the characteristic red portion was missing.

More than the sushi, two things that stood out were the seaweed wrapping for the maki (nori) and miso soup. The nori had a deep umami scent and had a nice, thick mouth feel. The miso soup also had a unique umami that did NOT taste like cheap restaurant miso stock.

Overall the nigiri we had tasted ok, but the fish was cut thin and the cuts were slightly small.

The green tea is good. Costs a dollar (but only a dollar).

In terms of sake, they only serve your standard house Gekkeikan (hot or iced).

The service was very friendly, with good suggestions and guidance on the menu. The miso was tasty, the tempura light and crisp, the ramen fresh and well seasoned and the sushi not only artful but fresh and lively. Definitely a place I will recommend.

Small cozy restaurant. The people are very nice and friendly. The service was quick and the food was very delicious. The sashimi was fresh. The cut of the salmon and tuna is a little on the thin side cut.
Will definitely return to this little family owned place. Added to my must visit when I return to Halifax.
