My brother who lives in Chicago recommend this place and took me and my Indian parents here. Let’s just say we all left with smiles on our faces and full bellies!

The flavors were immaculate and the vibes were unmatched! The restaurant is very clean and well decorated. The music was very nice and soothing which was much appreciate after a long drive. The bathroom was also very clean which is ALWAYS appreciated!

The chicken 65 and chili gobi were both delicious. The chicken was not gamey at all. It was tender and flavorful. The gobi was fresh and crispy. We also ordered the daal, palak paneer, and chicken tikka. They have spice levels 1-10 and are very true to the levels you have selected. You know it’s good when the parents approve!

Lastly, I highly recommend the mango lassi. Very classic Indian mango taste and not at all sour (which I prefer). Overall I’m very happy that we stopped in. I’ll definitely be coming back whenever I’m in Chicago again!

We visited Dhanteras in Roscoe Village yesterday for lunch to celebrate my brother-in-law’s birthday, and it was such a delightful experience.

Our host, Kavya, was incredibly pleasant, kind, and helpful in guiding us through the menu and making thoughtful recommendations. We started with the chili paneer and gobi Manchurian, both of which were absolutely delicious and perfectly balanced in flavor.

For the main course, we ordered spicy garlic naan, Dhanteras kofta, and kadai paneer with added vegetables. I can honestly say this was the best kadai paneer and kofta I’ve had anywhere in the Chicagoland area. The flavors were rich, authentic, and clearly made with care. The biryani was phenomenal as well — served in a clay pot sealed with roti, which made the experience feel extra special and traditional.

To top it all off, the team surprised us with a mango tres leches cake with a candle for the birthday, which was such a thoughtful and sweet gesture. The chef even came out to meet us at the end, which really added a personal touch and made the meal feel memorable.
This has easily become one of my favorite Indian restaurants in Chicago. Truly authentic food, warm hospitality, and a wonderful overall experience. Highly recommend!

WOW, found my go-to Indian spot. The dishes are saucy and rich in flavor and spice, the team is especially compassionate, and the restaurant is VERY clean.

We got the garlic naan, butter chicken, and lamb rogan josh. And make SURE you treat yourself to the mango lassi! Excited to come back and try more dishes.

INCREDIBLE food! I went here with my friends last week and the service, food, and vibe was great. The BYOB option was awesome – there’s no additional fees involved, and the restaurant is very helpful to get you what you need. The service was also exceptional! The food was so so good, the flavors were so deep and rich, the ingredients were great, and we were very happy with the quantity for the price. We got chili paneer, chicken 65, lamb biryani, shrimp kadai, and the mango tres leches cake. Genuinely would recommend every dish we got! As someone who’s been on the hunt for a go-to Indian restaurant in Chicago, I can’t wait to go back.

We had an excellent casual date here. The food had phenomenal flavors. It’s some of the best Aloo Gobi that I’ve had. My partner got butter chicken. Great options for vegans too!

One of the best Indian meals I’ve ever had. We got the Chili Gobi, chicken Chettinad, and Aloo Gobi…all AMAZING. Perfect level of spice in everything and the flavors were out of this world. There’s so much love in every dish and you can taste it immediately. Highly recommend the samosas too 😉

I can’t recommened this place enough. I recommend bringing a bottle of red wine because they have a no cork fee BYOB.

Don’t think, eat this. Seriously.

Delicious food in a small space. The dum style veggie biryani was one of the best I’ve had in the city! The gobi manchurian could have used a bit more sauce but I love how crispy it was. The mango lassi actually had good flavor and was not sour. They got very busy on the Sunday night that we attended, so the speed of service slowed down… But that is understandable. We didn’t mind much. We will be coming back, definitely for the biryani! The staff were also genuinely friendly and accommodating, which seems like a rare thing at most desi restaurants these days. Prices were typical for the area, but portion sizes are good.

We went for dinner on a Sunday and had the gobi manchurian, vegetable dum biryani, malai kofta, and spicy garlic naan. While our appetizers came out quickly, they definitely slowed down with an uptick in delivery/carry-out orders. However, once the main entrees came, we were very glad to see good spice levels and a solid amount of flavor. Though there was a delay, the restaurant staff were always smiling and apologized for the delays, which I appreciated. Would definitely come back, especially to have some more of that spicy garlic naan!

Had one of the best dining experiences I’ve ever had at Dhanteras Restaurant. After asking around for the most popular Indian restaurant in Chicago, this place kept coming up — and it absolutely lived up to the hype.

We tried the tikka masala pasta with shrimp and the dhanteraz lamb. The lamb was perfectly cooked, super tender, and the sauce was creamy rich and unique with perfect hint of chilli — tasted amazing with both the garlic naan and rice. The mango lassi was easily one of the most authentic ones I’ve ever had in Chicago, with fresh mango flavor hitting you instantly and a nice touch of crushed pistachios on top.

Service was warm, fast, and very attentive. Chef/owner Abu even stopped by to say hello, which made the experience feel extra special. His passion for the restaurant and the food he served clearly came through

Highly recommend to someone who’s looking to for a local gem that’s worth all the accolades — definitely coming back!
