I purchased a fried pork chop dinner with sides of macaroni and cheese, collard greens and yams. When I placed the order, I asked that the pork chops be fried hard. See the photo. The pork chops are swimming in oil & are NOT cooked through. I’m not sure what cheeses were used for this macaroni. It’s bland. The yams are stringy. The greens are just OK. I don’t understand how you have your children at your business running around the lobby. I just wasted $24.37. I’m saddened that I had not only wasted my money but my time. I will not be back.

Absolutely amazing! I ordered smothered pork chops, Mac n cheese, and greens! Everything was cooked to perfection and was very tasteful! Customer service was warm and welcoming! Whenever I visit Detroit, Detroit Soul will be on my list of things to do! Thank you for your hospitality!

I am thoroughly pleased with my order and the food was DELICIOUS. I appreciate the amount of professionalism Mrs. Val and the other owners showed me when I stopped by again. They have earned me as a repeat customer along with my grandparents who has been looking for a #BlackOwned establishment to patronize. We will be returning

Great portions and food was nice and fresh. I got 2 dinners. Meatloaf with yams and macaroni were delicious. My daughter got chicken with macaroni and yams and a side of greens. The greens were a bit bitter for us, but other than that we were pleased and will return.

I couldn’t eat the ribs because they were undone and the spaghetti was nasty and the greens had hot sauce on them that tasted nasty. My husbands plate had pork chops that were over cooked and the macaroni was nasty but he ate it plus he had greens he thought the greens were okay. Overall I was truly disappointed ☹️. This was our first time here and this was definitely be our last. We spent 40 dollars for nothing. I wish I could give this place no stars ⭐️.

Open your eyes as you travel along 8 Mile East. We’re not here to talk about Marshall Mathers. That’s not the 8 Mile I speak of. This 8 Mile seems to have a history, a story to tell. One of those stories is Detroit Soul. This is a place of comfort, conversation, and confidence that you will absolutely enjoy your meal.
Before we begin, let’s address the wait time and explain why your wait may be better fifteen and twenty minutes. You’re here for soul food. Your not here for fast food, so expect to get fried chicken that’s made to order. Sit back, strike up a conversation, enjoy the wall of African American history. You’re home, act like it.
When you walk in, take in the simplicity of the business. It’s right to the point. Come in, order, eat in or carry out. The menu is direct and easy to read. No subsections to this menu. What you see is what you get, and there’s nothing wrong with that. From fried chicken lunches and dinners, to smothered pork chops and turkey wings. Side items include collard greens, mac and cheese, baked beans, and cole slaw to name a few.
When it comes to dessert, the pond cake was incredible. I didn’t try the German chocolate cake, so I can’t say anything for that. With your lunch or dinner you get a side of cornbread. The bread was not as soft as I liked, but that’s a personal gripe, do not let that turn you off to trying it. You may have different tastes, so enjoy.
The staff are very welcoming. From the start of our visit, we spent most of our time talking with the staff about the area and what to see. If you need an idea of what to see and where to go in Detroit, make sure to ask. They have some really good ideas.
Parking is very limited. The parking lot is very small and begs to be expanded. That is the only improvement I would suggest.
Prepare for a good, humble and enjoyable experience. Welcome to Detroit Soul. Welcome home.

Absolutely delicious even though they forgot my cranberry sauce that I asked for when ordering and when I got there. No additional salt/pepper packets and off brand hot sauce packets (no Frank’s Hot Sauce). Food was amazing!! Limited parking and other customers picking up orders parked in between 2 parking spots making it hard for one to park to pick up orders. The girls working were nice and they are part of a program where they employee high school students so I love that. I will be back to try some other dishes. I ordered my food way before arriving because I only have 30 minutes for lunch and still had to wait even though I have them over 20 mins to prepare food. 20 mins is what they told me over the phone. Overall great experience. I will be back!!!

Started with the BBQ wing appetizer, followed by the fried chicken lunch, and ice cream for dessert. Jerome took great care of me and I can’t wait to go back!

We showed up for Saturday barbecue and it was a great decision. Our ribs were tender with the tastiest smoky sweet barbecue sauce, crispy fried chicken and fried catfish, and delicious sides – our favorites were the beans and mac n’ cheese. This might just turn into a Saturday carry out tradition.
