Make a visit you won’t be disappinted
But my friend assured me this was the place for it. I got scared again when I found out the young white waitress didn’t know what a Michelada (beer and tomato clam sauce. I know it sounds gross! It isn’t.).
So I ordered the fish sandwich as we are near many many many lakes and that felt safe. My buddy ordered nachos to share and the Mexican me forgot English for a bit.
Anyways Desi’s reminded me of my favorite restaurant as a child combined with my favorite dive bar as an adult. Please visit!
1st, I waited 10 minutes to be seated because the sign said to, only to learn they hadn’t moved it and I could sit any table.
Then I order enough food to be able to carry out, 3 Enchiladas and Chili Rellenos. What’s brought to my table is a single enchilada with CHILI ON IT! Im then told they don’t have chili Rellenos (even though it’s on menu) . I basically was then served a single enchilada, nothing else. No rice, beans, Nada. What a joke. Great decoration in dining room is NOT enough for me to return again.
It took a while for our waitress to take our drink orders and refills were slow. Again, she was kind, but they could have used at least 2 more servers.
I had the Deluxe Nachos (mini size) and they were okay, but not anything super special or anything to write home about.
One of my friends ordered the Mexican Potato Cups and there were no black olives on them like the menu said. When she asked the waitress about it, she said it doesn’t come with olives, but she would bring a side of olives. We looked up the menu online and it does say it comes with olives. Also, the menu says “seasoned beef”, but the beef had very little flavor and didn’t taste seasoned at all.
The side of guacamole came in the tiniest container that was half full and we were charged around $3.00 for it. Literally, was about 2 bites worth.
The water also tasted funny.
We were underwhelmed.
We hope they’re able to figure out their staffing situation because it has potential. The menu is HUGE! perhaps cutting down on the options would help the kitchen staff a little.
On Sunday evening Desi’s was busy but had several open tables. Service was slow due to not enough waitstaff. The waitress we had was not efficient in that she would walk by several times and not ask if we needed anything, which we did, and had to interrupt her for service.
The biggest let down was the food, we had tacos and a burrito dinner. All was lukewarm at best. Also, my experience at the old Desi’s or at any restaurant that serves Mexican food, they would supply salsa for tacos, burritos, or most any other Mexican dish and none was provided.
We hadn’t been there in years because Desi’s son took over after his father passed and the food quality had gone way down. We knew the restaurant had been sold a couple of years ago and decided to try it again hoping the food quality had improved. Sorry to say, it has not.
Miss Desi himself, a lot.
