Reminded me Hyderabad❤️
As someone who loves the food at the Virginia Desi Chowrasta location, I had high hopes visiting this spot — and it mostly delivered!
Irani Chai ☕ — Absolute Gem!
Let’s start with the star of the show. The Irani Chai here is hands down the best you’ll find in the Edison and South Plainfield area. That thick, creamy, slow-simmered goodness with just the right sweetness — it takes you straight to the streets of Hyderabad’s Nimrah Café. No compromise, no shortcuts. Perfect.
Snacks & Tea-Time Bites ️ — Made for Spicy Souls!
If you grew up loving South Indian street food, this place speaks your language. The Mirchi Bajji, Punugulu, Samosa, and Bonda are all on point — crispy outside, soft inside, and packed with that masala kick your taste buds crave. Great for chai-time cravings after a long day. Very much the “tiffin center” feeling from back home.
Breakfast Options ️
They carry classic Telugu breakfast staples — Idli, Vada, Upma, Pesarattu — the kind of comfort food that hits different on a weekend morning. Not fancy, just authentic. Exactly what you want.
Chicken Appetizers — Good, Not Great
The chicken snacks are decent and worth trying, but manage your expectations. This is more of a curry-point style — pre-prepped rather than made-to-order — so don’t expect the freshness of a dedicated appetizer kitchen. Good enough for a snack, just not a highlight.we tried cashew chicken and Guntur Karam chicken
Biryani — The Verdict Is Still Out!
I haven’t had a chance to try their Biryani yet — and for a place with Hyderabadi roots, that’s the ultimate test, isn’t it? Given how good everything else has been, I have high hopes. If it lives up to the Virginia location’s standards, it could be a real game-changer for the area. Will definitely be updating this review once I get to it — stay tuned! If you’ve tried it, drop a comment below!
Crowds — Expect a Wait on Evenings & Weekends!
One thing to be prepared for — this place gets seriously packed in the evenings and on weekends. The desi community has clearly found their spot! The wait times can be long, seating fills up fast, and the chai line moves slowly when it’s busy. If you’re planning a weekend visit, go early or be ready to wait. Weekday mornings are much more relaxed if you want a peaceful chai-and-snack experience. The crowd is honestly a testament to how good the food is — but plan accordingly!
A Few Menu Gaps ⚠️
Worth noting — not everything on the menu is available yet. The location is still growing into itself, so some items you might be looking forward to may not be ready. Give it time — the foundation is strong.
Bottom Line:
If you’re craving authentic Telugu tiffin snacks, a proper Irani chai, and that desi roadside chowrasta vibe in Central Jersey — this is your spot. It’s not perfect yet, but the soul is absolutely right. Great for spice lovers, great for homesick Hyderabadis, and a must-visit for anyone tired of generic Indian fast food. Just don’t show up at 7pm on a Saturday without patience!
Oka sari try chesthe, malli malli vastaru!
I know it’s kind of soft lunch but terrible in taste.
For sure it’s over priced for the quality and taste.
Biryani tasted almost like tasting salt (Ajinomoto)
Karvepaku chicken is horrible. Chef special chicken starter is so bad. Packing the onions in ziplock
Special mention to Shivani for her amazing service. She was very polite, attentive, and made sure everything was perfect for us. She kept checking if we needed anything and made us feel very welcome. Because of her, the whole experience became even better.
Definitely recommend this place. Will visit again soon…..
We ordered the Vijayawada boneless biryani and kaju paneer biryani, but mistakenly received two chicken biryanis. However, when I called and explained the situation, they handled it very professionally. They immediately sent the correct kaju paneer biryani along with a complimentary gutti vankaya pulav.
Every item was absolutely delicious — easily some of the best food I’ve had recently.
Really worst and waste of money
We also tried multiple biryanis — mutton biryani, chicken biryani, gutthivankaya biryani, and paneer gongura biryani — and every single one was delicious. The mutton was tender and well-cooked, the chicken was flavorful, and the vegetarian options were equally impressive with great spice balance and authentic taste.
And a special mention to the Jalapeño Chicken (Halopenia Chicken) — absolutely a must-try! It was spicy, juicy, and packed with flavor. One of the highlights of our meal.
The food quality, taste, and overall experience were excellent. Definitely a must-visit spot for anyone craving authentic Indian flavors!
Would absolutely visit again!
