We were in the neighborhood and Desert Penguin has become my go-to when I’m in East County. I’ve never been disappointed and each time I visit I try something new.
On this visit we tried the Baja Boats (potato wedges) and they were delicious. We had the Philly which came with seasoned fries and the carne asada plate which came with rice, beans, tortillas and sauteed jalapeños.
Service is always good, restaurant is always well kept and the food is always good. I’ll be back.

Four of us went in after a round of golf. Place was clean, service was great, and their Philly sandwich was awesome. 12 inch hogie roll and I would guess close to a pound of meat, onions, and peppers. Veggies were not cooked to death. Just enough to be soft and flavorful. I opted to upgrade to onion rings which were also very good in my opinion. Crisp and just a little greasy!

The food is excellent in taste and appearance. The atmosphere is perfect for a family gathering, friendly girls night out, guys chatting and the Bar is huge.

Generally they’re great. Tonight; I’m so disappointed. I ordered a burger and penguin fries for pick-up and I was told to give them 15 mins. I did that arrived and let them know I was there to pick up my food. 30 mins later I’m home opening my food. A ghetto burger is what I get bread soggy and falling apart not even an attempt at toasting the bread. Let people know when you’re out of product. I was a fan. Now I’m not. Great fun environment, friendly staff, excellent food and skilled bartenders. Usually fun events like live music, comedy, karaoke, UFC fights… Great selection of original drinks too!!
Highly recommended. If you’re passing thru on I-8, make sure you stop off. If you live in the area, it’s a great regular spot.

If you go. Pay with Cash and count your change. I went in and ordered a burger with frys and an iced tea. The burger was pretty good. The bill was $21.49 and I left a $5.00 dollar tip. When I left someone changed my $5.00 tip to a $50.00 tip. I called the manager and he seem pretty concerned about it. He said he would call me back with the details once he looked into it. He stopped returning my calls and text messages so I guess the management doesn’t care if they hire thieves. Maybe the management are the thieves.

After coming to this area for 7 years, we finally tried Desert Penguin twice in the last week. Nice atmosphere. Super friendly staff. Decent prices.

After riding SXS’s all morning, we were anticipating the same menu we looked at online the night before. Once we arrived, we were told that the online menu was not the current menu. Turns out it’s just bar food and fried crap. The Philly steak sandwich was nothing but hamburger meat with cheese and peppers. Not impressed. Don’t advertise a menu that you don’t intend to offer. Do better.
