I finally made it to **Derby City Pizza** in Valley Station, Kentucky (located at 12900 Dixie Hwy), and wow—what a fantastic find! I’ve heard great things about their Southern-style pizza, but experiencing it firsthand exceeded my expectations. This local spot, part of the Derby City Pizza Co. chain founded by Larry Davis back in 1991, focuses on hearty Italian fare with a Kentucky twist, and the Valley Station location delivers that perfect neighborhood vibe.

We kicked things off with the **pretzel bites with cheese* , paired with a creamy, gooey cheese dip that was addictive. Every bite was a perfect balance of salty and savory; I could’ve eaten a whole basket myself! Next came an **amazing salad**—fresh, crisp greens with generous toppings, and that homemade feel that makes you appreciate simple sides done well. It was the ideal fresh counterpart to the heavier mains.

The star of the show was **The Champ pizza** and let me tell you, it lives up to the name. Loaded with sausage, pepperoni, onions, green peppers, mushrooms, green olives, black olives, and plenty of mozzarella cheese, this pie is a flavor powerhouse. The crust is that signature thin, cracker-like Southern style—crispy edges, sturdy enough to hold all those toppings without getting soggy. Each slice was packed with savory meats, fresh veggies, and melty cheese that pulled apart perfectly. It was indulgent but not overwhelming, and the combination of toppings created layers of taste in every bite. We devoured it quickly and were already talking about what we’d order next time.

What really sealed the deal was the staff. From the moment we walked in, everyone was incredibly friendly and welcoming. They took time to chat, made sure everything was just right, and even thanked us personally as we left—which is a rare, thoughtful touch these days. The place has a cozy, family-oriented feel (with some cool nods to local schools, and it’s clear they take pride in their community spot.

Value-wise, portions are generous, prices are reasonable for the quality, and it’s a great option for carryout, dine-in, or feeding a group. If you’re in the Valley Station area craving authentic, loaded pizza with Southern flair and top-notch service, Derby City Pizza is a must-try. I’ll definitely be back soon—maybe for more Champ or to explore other menu gems. Highly recommend this hidden gem!

Very pleased!
I’ve never had Derby City Pizza until today.
I ordered the medium meat pizza and the server Sasah was very helpful, friendly and informative.
The pizza was fresh out of the oven and took less time than most of your so called “fast food” restaurants.
I would highly recommend *****

My family and I used to go here all the time and it was great. My experience this time was the opposite. My boyfriend and I ordered the cheese bread, when it came out it was actually cheese bites that were premade and fried & the marinara came from a jar. We ordered the BBQ Chicken Pizza and the kids spaghetti for entrees. Our server wasn’t writing any of our order down and she came out with the kids spaghetti (which my daughter loved) but our BBQ Chicken Pizza was brought out to us as a Buffalo Chicken Pizza. I do not like Buffalo Chicken Pizza at all, my boyfriend however, does. I was just going to order something different, as he was eating his pizza, but when the server came to check on us the first time he asked for boxes. He ate two pieces of pizza and was done (which is not like him). He said the pizza they brought out was not good. we basically wasted about $40 on a dinner neither one of us will eat. Thankfully my daughter liked her spaghetti, but we will never be back.

This was our first time here, and we give it 2 thumbs up! The atmosphere was fun, the food was great, and the service was outstanding. (Thanks Ashley. 🙂 I really enjoyed my individual size pizza. There’s a great outdoor seating area, but it is too hot today to even think about that. Wee back!

5 Stars – Outstanding Experience at Derby City Pizza!

I can’t say enough good things about my recent visit to Derby City Pizza! The food was absolutely delicious — fresh, hot, and packed with flavor. The crust was perfectly crispy, the sauce had just the right tang, and the toppings were generous and high-quality. It’s clear they take pride in every pizza they serve.

What really made the experience stand out, though, was the exceptional service. Our server was friendly, attentive, and genuinely cared about making our meal special. They checked in at just the right times and made sure we had everything we needed. It’s rare to find that level of care and professionalism these days, and it made our visit so much more enjoyable.

If you’re looking for amazing pizza and top-notch service, Derby City Pizza is the place to be. I’ll definitely be back for more!

I had the pleasure of dining at the Derby city Pizza just south of the Snider on Dixie Highway. Pizza and salad were wonderful. Service was also wonderful. We did run into an issue where several Hispanic people got out of control. The staff took care of it well. Compliments to them for de-escalating a situation. They rock. I’ve been here many times and I’ve never seen this before.

Ok so we stopped here on the motorcycle for a bite to eat. The don’t seat you. We sat down outside and no one ever came to us. I had to go get someone. Then they took our drink orders which was just water for us and no one ever came back to bring us our waters or take our order. I had to go inside and complain and place my order at the register. Then our waters were brought out w our pizza and never saw anyone else again. Had to go up front again to pay. Pizza was pretty good tho. Oh and there was just us and one other table there too soo def not busy. But with that service I see why.

We eat a lot of pizza from many different places. This place was great. Food was delicious and hot and quick. Great service and cold beer too. Only complaint is that the buffalo wings were sub par flavor wise.

I’m not a negative person, but this was absolutely the worst pizza I’ve ever tasted. The toppings are obviously canned, the crust is mass produced thin-crust and pre-made, and it came out like warm. The staff was polite and accommodating, but I feel bad for them as they can’t control the quality of the ingredients. The cheapest frozen pizza at the grocery store would be preferable. I’m sorry, but PLEASE buy fresh ingredients and had-toss some fresh dough if you want repeat customers.
