Cozy, homey restaurant serving German entrees, desserts & beers in a historic limestone building.

When I come through Fredericksburg this is where I eat. In fact, it’s so good and my family loves it that I went out of my way to come to town, order from here and take it home to them a few hours back(with a cooler in tow)!!! I ordered the Jager schnitzel and Goulash. Their chocolate mousse cake is phenomenal. After I eat it, I think it’s worth it to have the body shape I have(I’m in a healthy BMI, but need to make wise choices for my health, got to live a little! Worth it!!!) Great historic building, Great service. Clean.

This restaurant has a little more of an old school, authentic German vibe. I’ve eaten here a few times and it is always a big portion and delicious. This time I wanted something a little lighter and got the smaller portion of the Hungarian stew over herbed egg noodles. The food and service were speedy. The stew hit the spot and tasted like something perhaps your grandmother made.

Good German restaurant with a welcoming atmosphere. Feels like you’re eating in someone’s home. The staff were friendly, but there weren’t very many so it took a while to get seated. Air conditioning and clean tables!
Ordered the pork cutlets and it was so good. The breading was very light and the potato salad was great. Will definitely be back!

Pretty good for those who want to try a German-style dinner once. Visited during a trip to Fredericksburg, the place came recommended by a local AirBnB host as authentic German cuisine.
My friend ordered a curry huhn and a lemonade, I had a Jager schnitzel, and we found it enjoyable.
The indoor atmosphere was modest and comfortable.
Our server was Denise, who was friendly despite looking busy.
With tip, an entree dinner was about $40 per person.

After asking several locals for a good German restaurant, we were repeatedly recommended The Lindenbaum as the most “authentic” option in town. As a German myself, I had high expectations, but unfortunately, I left somewhat disappointed.
One of my biggest issues was the “Wiener Schnitzel” on the menu. Traditionally, Wiener Schnitzel is made with veal, but here, it was only pork. In Germany, that would be called “Schnitzel Wiener Art” to differentiate it, and I wish the restaurant labeled it correctly. It’s hard to get Wiener schnitzel so I was super excited… That being said, the schnitzel itself was well-prepared and tasty, but I was expecting to eat a real Wiener Schnitzel.
The potato salad was another letdown. What was served was not a typical German potato salad but rather mashed potatoes with bacon (Kartoffelpüree mit Speck). While it tasted fine, it was far from what one would expect if looking for a true German-style potato salad.
Overall, while the food was decent, it didn’t quite meet the authentic German experience I was hoping for. If you’re just looking for a casual meal with German-inspired dishes, it might still be worth a visit, but if you’re seeking true authenticity, you may be disappointed.

Great lunch!! Our waitress was friendly and took good care of us. We loved the marble rye bread to start. We had he jäger schnitzel, the mixed sausage platter and the kartoffel salad. The schnitzel featured a delicious wild mushroom sauce and was served with German potato salad and red cabbage. The schnitzel was crispy and the mushroom sauce was delicious. The sausage plate as served with a very good sauerkraut and German potato salad. The kartofel salad featured crisp greens and German potato salad. The Black Gorest Cake was too yummy to pass up for dessert. Good news! They did take our credit fcard!

This was my first time trying German cuisine. Everything was well prepared. I had the curry wurst. The veal and pork sausage was good with the sauce. I just wasn’t a fan of the sauerkraut and the German potato salad had a different taste, but they were okay. Hubby had the pot roast, it was tender and full of flavor. His dish came with red cabbage which was pretty good. We ended up switching plates halfway thru dinner, because I liked his meal better The portions are more than enough for us. I was surprised there was no complementary bread with our meal. The bread basket is an additional $3.95. It is a bit pricey. Our server was great. We didn’t have to wait to be seated either. She made sure we were taken care of. It was difficult to find parking on the main strip, but there is parking in the back

We went here for my mother’s birthday. It’s a quaint little place that used to be a bakery, I think. The atmosphere is old world cozy. Our waitress was friendly and helpful, and when my mother asked for tea, she brought over lots of options for her to choose from. Like a true German, she was glad to see empty plates when we were done, LOL.
That being said, the food seems to be hit or miss. We started with a bread basket with butter, and the marbled bread was tasty. Three of us, myself included, ordered schnitzel, which was very good, well cooked and crispy. The potatoes are excellent, very soft and flavorful, and we all liked the red cabbage. My mother ordered the goulash, which she said was not like what she had when she and dad lived in Germany, plus the meat was tough. My kid sister had the spaghetti, which she said was ‘light on flavor.’ Meaning bland. None of us got bratwurst or the salads, so I can’t comment on those.
Overall, this is a nice place with good service, but there are other German restaurants in Fredericksburg where the food is more outstanding, so we probably won’t be back.

About as German as you can get in the US. We had jagerschnitzel and pork chops at our table and they were fantastic! The sauerkraut and red cabbage sides were generous and delicious. However the surprise side was the German potatoes. Addictive. Great taste and consistency. Ausgezeichnet! This rivaled meals we had in Germany . To top it off the Tuxedo cake was wonderful. The employees were terrific, helpful, and on top of everything. I highly recommend this authentic German restaurant!
