Visited Der Dutchman last week. This was my second time, though the location was different last.

Not a fan. I went here after seeing reviews on the buffet, so I purchased the $22 buffet to get a feel for all the food here. The amount of food that was made and put out was quite small. There were two sections with one having cold stuff (Sysco brand or GFS brand coleslaw, potato salad, makings for a salad) and the other having the warm food. The noodles looked mushy so I didn’t try them. I tried pretty much everything else: the fried chicken and veggies were the only thing I thought were decent. The rest of the meat was below average and dry while the mashed potatoes were eh. The bread pudding looked good but tasted average. What made me dislike it was how incredibly (not squishy) mushy it was. You’d take a bite and there was no resistance or bread-like thickness to it. I wanted a dessert from the menu so I got a strawberry cheesecake and even that was a let down. It turned out to be like a grocery store New York style cheesecake (not a good thing) with some mass-produced strawberry glaze and some OK strawberries.

Decided to check this place out since we’ve never been before. They have a regular menu if you don’t want the buffet but we just got the buffet. Dining areas are cozy! There was a decent selection of food, nothing outrageous. A few different meats, few different veggies and a few starches. I honestly expected more since it was Amish but it was ok. Food tasted good, was hot, etc….but fried chicken was very dried out. The ham and fried perch was probably the best part. Rolls are brought to the table along with your drinks. Staff was friendly and attentive. This buffet doesn’t include pie & such for dessert. They give you a dessert menu, and charge extra for a slice of pie, approximately $5. Kinda odd to me, most buffets have a dessert area…this one does not. They do have a gift shop and huge bakery that you can purchase about any baked good imaginable along with the biggest cream sticks I’ve ever seen. I’d go back for the bakery but the $18 buffet…ehhh probably not…it was just average. Lots of parking, rocking chairs outside to relax in, etc…worth a stop to at least check out.

We ate here on our road trip up 71. It was a fabulous experience. The roast beef and noodles were just like my Grandma makes, and the Peanut Butter Pie definitely lived up to its ‘Famous’ title. Our waitress Erin was also spectacular and so helpful and friendly. If we are ever in town again, we will definitely make a point to stop in.

Had a great time here! The buffet was good (especially the salad bar and soup). I definitely recommend the apple or peach pie. You must check out the bakery and gift shop…lots of great goodies! Will absolutely return

Sort of a Cracker Barrel with a buffet in Amish country ♂️. The food was delicious. The service was great. The place is huge and seemed really clean. The pies are delicious. We bought some other things too from the shop. Highly recommend!

This place blows my mind I walked in and it’s a store first then the restaurant. So much to look at in the store it’s two floors. Then we ate there and the food was amazing. If you ever get a chance stop in you won’t regret it. The service was kind and helpful and very clean place.

Best fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy. Not many places can make green beans the way I like them, the way my parents made them, but by golly, they do!! It’s the only restaurant I will eat green beans in Waitress was very good!

If you have been to one Amish restaurant, then you have really experienced them all. That being said, this place is one of the best I have eaten at! The noodles are amazing, the fried chicken is the best anywhere around, and the food is always quality and fresh! The salad bar is awesome and it includes soups which is great! It’s a little expensive, unless you get just the salad bar, but it is a great honestly and home cooked type of meal in a world of fast food. It’s much closer to a real home cooked meal than many other restaurants! Great and friendly staff too!
