We live near Galveston and don’t get up to E. TX much anymore but all of my roots are there. We were staying in Nacogdoches for the weekend and ran over to Dee Leon’s for the 1st time. It was just exactly what deep East Texas cooking should be. Fried catfish is a big deal in our family. We are very particular to how it’s sourced, prepared, breaded and fried. Dee’s friend catfish was perfect! They served us free strawberry shortcake dessert for Valentine’s weekend. The staff were nice and sweet, and there was Christian country music playing on the radio. Great food and great hometown atmosphere! We will be back.

Ordered dumplings for Christmas and was very disappointed in taste. Very bland. Two years in a row that we were disappointed. Last year food was spoiled and previous owners knew it and never responded to our calls. The dressing we got this year was okay. Time to move on.

Dee Leons is under NEW ownership. ( Dee would not had sold the resturant to Just Anyone…The new owner would need to show pride in craftsman ship…. a continuation of a Legacy.) The menu and food is slightly different but, still basically the same WITH Specials (Lunch & Supper) and a variety of options. The new menu is BOTH flavorful and nutritious, from Honey Pecan Chicken Fried to Fresh Green Garden Salads. With out the local farmed vegetables, chain restaurants would engulf society.
To have local cafés and not chain foods who are trying to balance quality and clear a profitable living, to stay in buisness takes more buisness minded ingenuity than “a good cook”.

It’s better to have our quality local cafes than None at all…. at least the new owner tries and cares. Most people today, do not try to have any thing for them self and family to build on. Mallory (the new owner) has put her best foot forward in working hard to learn even more of what it takes to operate a restaurant. Her and her family are working hard, give them a chance!

**** This quality of food meets the high expectations of our local critic, Mr. Stanley. As well as mine ****

☆ Only a narrow minded individual would expect the benchmark met from the Dee Leons Hallmark ideals. ☆

Great food. Friendly atmosphere! Try the steak finger basket with fries. They are homemade and fabulous! Rolls and cornbread are out of this world!

Little country place, fabulous onion rings. The fried chicken was moist and tender. Chicken fried steak fork tender with real whipped potatoes. Fried peach pie is to die for.

Friendly and attentive staff. Homestyle meals with pies and cookies on the menu. Ordered the evening special last week, Beef Tips over Rice with 3 sides.

Beef tips needed more seasoning. Food was lukewarm. Fried okra was a tad overcooked but had a very crispy exterior. Coconut cream pie was delicious.

We got the daily special. The cornbread and okra&tomatoes were the most amazing but everything else was super delicious! We will never drive through Wells again without stopping here to eat! I heard they make homemade fried pies every Friday and they sell out quick. So if you are nearby on a Friday, go get some.

Someone please help this restaurant. Walked in for lunch and had a hard time finding a clean table, because hardly any had been bussed. They didn’t start cleaning tables for new guests until I was done eating, by which point people had already sat down at dirty tables! The food is really disappointing. The patty melt I ordered was nothing more than a bland hamburger patty between two pieces of wheat bread, with tasteless onions, a whisper of Swiss cheese, and…yellow mustard? What? It was soggy, and all I tasted was the mustard. The bread I was served before my meal – I watched the waitress pull biscuits and cornbread out of the fridge and microwave them, which explains why they were chewy and oily. Atmosphere-wise the place generally looks sad, dirty, and run-down. The energy is bleak.

I guess this place is good for people who have the same ingredients at home but don’t want to cook them. As for me, I will not be back. People say the pies are good, but I don’t even want to try them after this experience.
