I absolutely want to love this place. I think it has potential. I have been here with a big group for dinner and I returned last Sunday for a brunch date with hubby. When I first came with the large group a long time ago, my thoughts were “there must be a serious and passionate chef here in Albany with professional training.” Top notch ingredients and sophistication, although there was some minor execution on the dishes. So could this be the next it place besides The Flint?
Well after last Sunday’s brunch I left with mixed feelings. We were the only ones there the entire time which we didn’t mind. Restaurant has a nice layout and beautifully decorated. Our hostess who was also our server was super sweet and patient.

We discovered their brunch was their menu with a few brunch items to choose from.

Appetizer: Because I’m fat and couldn’t just pick one, I ordered the shrimp fritters and crab beignets. Although there were similarities in the fact that they are both fried and served with the same sauce, the fritters itself had its own distinct flavor. We really appreciated the chunks of shrimp and corn. Same with the beignets. Remoulade sauce was also tasty and tangy.

Main: Our main entrees were the shrimp and grits as well as the ribs with a side of green beans and mashed potatoes. The shrimp and grits were delicious with well seasoned shrimp on top of creamy grits. I wish I could go back in time and not order the rib plate altogether. If you expect your ribs to fall off the bone, don’t get it. My meat was not tender and I felt like it was not fresh. The peach bbq sauce was also disappointing because if I didn’t read the description, I would’ve thought it was just regular bbq sauce. I tried the green beans and almost spit it out because it was super salty. I thought it was me and let my husband taste it since he likes his food on the saltier side. He agreed and we did ask to trade for another side. Nothing to rave on the mash. The Mac and cheese was really good though. The server was very nice about the change as well.

Maybe I came in with too high of expectations for this place. I’ve talked to other people who have tried it and also had mixed feelings or negative experiences as well with the food. I’m still willing to root for this place and maybe will give them another chance.

This is a hidden jewel in Albany, GA. I first went on a Sunday and then returned on the following Thursday. The restaurant is very quiet and elegant. The food is prepared with care. The meals are on the higher price spectrum compared to the other “fine dining” restaurants in the area, but is definitely worth it. I definitely give 2 thumbs up for the slow cooked ribs, haystack burger, lamp chops, and chicken carbonaro (sp?). The others pictured were “ok”. I recommend giving them a try!

Honestly this was the worst food experiences that I had and purchase. Me and my sufficient other loves to spend money on food because we love to eat so we pay for what we want.So we ordered two separate meals because again we love to eat so once I calls the restaurant great personality answered the phone. She asked was I ready to ordered so I told her I was doing two separate orders for to go please. She said yes ma’am.My first order was the crab stuffed beignets $14.00, shrimp and grits $18.00,Georgia Peach BBQ Chicken $18.00 sides 2 collard greens and bae loves peach cobbler $14.00. So that total was $69.12 I didn’t think the price was bad.So we ordered food for later too that order was 2 slow smoked Rib platters $26.00 one side white cheddar Mac and cheese and house salad with no onions and his sides were 2house salads no onions. That total $56.16.So the total together was $125.28 and she hung up the phone. So she didn’t ask my name for the order and number and hung up, So I called back because we wanted our food. She said I’m sorry I hung up I said it’s okay boo we just want to make sure the order was placed. So she confirmed and we waited then went to get our food.Once we got there I went in the atmosphere was great and someone came fast gave me my food so I checked it like we had to learn.Once I checked it in my head I’m like what the world bae gone trip out.The serving of food didn’t add to the prices very slim sides too then I had to tell them I didn’t have the peach clobber now that was the heaviest thing in the bag.Make it back home bae looks through the food and say this better be good for all this money and small portions. So eating this food I gave it average we had better and we love soul food. We love it,can cook it,can judge it and want it!His greens as alright very small portions, chicken breast okay not to me but to him.I personally didn’t like it and I love bbq sauce and bbq it was thin and I don’t like chicken that gives me that rubbery texture. Those ribs ugh blew me because I love ribs and I had a bad experience last night at Yummys in Tallahassee with their fried ribs.FYI go to them during the day time TOTAL vibe and it’s a daiquiri bar real vibe with 90s R&B music. But my ribs didn’t taste different they taste like crock pot or in the oven ribs.$26.99 for 4 bones .They didn’t give me the “slow smoked” grill thing so I’m like no and my shrimp and grits; no, average mines taste way better and I had better elsewhere .Just yesterday at Yummys super good, but my shrimp wasn’t done all the way I knew it too because shrimps turn a pink color once it’s done. This shrimp was a raw half done automatically turnt me off.Wasnt happy but I told my boyfriend I would like to dine in and see the experience of it then judge from there.Everyone doesn’t have good food consistently unless you cook it, but he said no not for the price.Agree I still would like to dine in to see

I am happy to support new restaurants but I must be honest. I spent over 50 dollars on catfish, green beans, cheese grits, and banana pudding. The prices are too high for what i received. The grits are way too salty and no cheese. Apparently the fish wasnt drained well bc my container has a pool of grease in the bottom. Maybe the check is off or this is how they do business but I am not happy with this . 14 dollars for 2 spoonfuls of pudding.

We hosted a birthday party here and the ambiance and staff were amazing! Antwon ensured that everything was arranged perfectly and he paired us with two amazing servers (Ashley and Aiden). I was a little ill prepared and overwhelmed, but Ashley made sure everything went smoothly! Thank you all for an amazing evening! We will be back!!

Also I had the fried chicken dinner and it was soooo good! The appetizers were quite delectable as well. My entire party really enjoyed their food. Antwon is an amazing chef!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A Culinary Masterpiece on the Foodie Lyfe Tour!

Taking a Foodie Lyfe Tour was just what my taste buds ordered, and Decanter Chophouse was the crown jewel of the experience! From the moment we stepped inside, the elegant ambiance—dim lighting, plush leather booths, and a stunning wine wall—set the stage for an unforgettable evening.

The steak was absolutely superb—perfectly seared, buttery-soft, and bursting with flavor. My medium-rare ribeye arrived with a gorgeous crust, glistening under a drizzle of herb-infused butter. Every bite melted like a dream! Paired with their magnificent wine selection (a bold Cabernet Sauvignon recommended by their expert sommelier), it was pure perfection. The presentation was Instagram-worthy, with each dish plated like a work of art.

Service was impeccable—attentive but never intrusive, with staff who clearly took pride in the dining experience.

If you’re looking for fine dining done right, Decanter Chophouse won’t disappoint. 10/10—will be back!

I’ve been to Decanter a number of times , but haven’t been in a few months . I went today , and I am SO disappointed. They have completely lowered the quality of the food . Dry aged steak used to melt in your mouth. $80 for a tough , rubbery Dry Aged New York strip , $50 for a “supposedly” 12oz steak that looks like a LongHorn steak . Absolutely outrageous .
Don’t think I’m gonna be headed back ANY time soon unless my partner wants to try the chicken and waffles they offer . Couldn’t even eat because I was appalled at the change .

Red flags went up the minute we entered. We had reservations that were confirmed prior to arrival. Upon arrival they acted like we were not on the list. Took 10 minutes to find us on the list. Took multi servers to find the correct list. We had a party of 6. They sat us at a small table for 4 with only 4 place settings. We were touching elbows. There were 5 empty tables around us also. The server was clueless so I started gathering chairs and place settings and served my own table. We order drinks, and asked what was on draft. She said Pepsi. We did get two drinks and were received timely. But, after 45 minutes of additional waiting, we never saw our server. When she finally came back, she said that there was no ice, no more cups, and would be a long wait before they could start making our food. We had not even ordered appetizers. This was already after a long wait. She asked if we would like to stay or go. Really! Then she returned with our checks for two drinks WITH a 20% automatically included gratuity. REALLY? BTW, $20 for a small ordinary martini. She waited over our shoulders while we paid and reached for my ticket before I could hand it to her. Never was able to try any food after an hour being there so could not comment on that. I blame management and lack of training, not the people serving. We were not rude, all smiles. We quietly over paid and left, never to return. Biancas is awesome, better service. Again, it was not the server’s fault. And never saw anyone but the server.

If I could give this place zero stars, I would.
I rented a private dining room for a party and paid $175, which I was told would secure the room and ensure enough food for my guests. Unfortunately, the entire experience was a disaster.
We waited two hours for our food. Two additional guests arrived and were told there was no food left for them. Another staff member later said there was food, but that serving it would “overwork the waitresses,” which was incredibly confusing and unacceptable.
One of my guests ordered several items off the menu and did not receive everything he ordered, yet he was still asked to pay for items he never received. The food itself was very disappointing—overpriced, small portions, poorly seasoned, and not good. Every single person at the table complained about the quality.
There was another private party happening at the same time, and we were told that they also had not ordered or received their food. At one point, we were locked inside the restaurant because they ran out of food, and my guests could not leave. The two additional guests were told they could only order drinks from the bar and nothing to eat.
I have never been treated this way at a restaurant in my life. This was by far the worst dining experience I’ve ever had. None of my guests said they would return to Decanter due to the food and overall experience.
The only positive thing I can say is that the servers were great—patient, kind, and very understanding while we were visibly upset. Unfortunately, good service alone cannot make up for how poorly this event was handled.
