A friend of mine was raving about the 7 layer cakes. She bought the Caramel 7 Layer Cake to share. The cake was disappointing. The Caramel didn’t have much flavor. Maybe because it was whipped instead of being more dense so the flavor would be concentrated. The Cake (sponge) had a weird texture from all the larger than normal air bubbles and had no taste when ate separately from the icing. Some other reviews complained about the texture and taste too as compared to previous experiences. They suspected Miss Dean changed the recipe or switched to box cakes. This was my first Dean’s Cake so I can’t agree or disagree with those claims. A lot of people rave about these and really seem to like them. Seems to be more hype and a tourist trap to me. I’ll pass next time someone buys one.

Bought 4 slices of cake. 4 different kinds. Seems we could only buy frozen slices. No dates on the container. They are freezing the slices to hold them longer I think. Makes sense it’s a business. But not for me at $2.99 a slice. The cakes are very dense and just not what I was looking for as a tourist driving Thru and seeing the signs and wanting to try a local bakery. Will not stop again and do not recommend.

Been buying cakes her for years. The last couple have not been as fresh as usual. The lemon 7 layer had so little frosting and dry it was terrible. The caramel cake was so dry like it was several days old. About one more try will be my last.

A taste of home, and always so delicious! I’ve never tasted a Dean’s Cake House cake I didn’t like, with the 7-layer chocolate cake being my absolute favorite. You can’t have a family reunion In Andalusia without one.:)

My husband watched this company on ABSOLUTELY ALABAMA and we have been looking for these cakes for months. My son is a truckdriver and was going to be passing by Andalusia so he bought me the caramel cake and my husband the coconut cake. Both cakes are so dry, such a let down and now I have to lie to my son or he will really be upset about his gifts for us, he was so proud of his gift. I will not be looking for these cakes again.

We were driving through Alabama on the way to Florida and noticed that they had this cake house nearby so we took a little side trip to pick up some cakes. Our favorite cake that we bought was the Italian buttercream cake. I wish I would have gotten a large one of those because the cake itself was very moist. We did get the seven layer caramel and red velvet. Everyone enjoyed it it’s also a cute little place all the ladies were real sweet that work there.
