I ordered a dozen charbroiled oysters, onion rings, and a few shots of cognac. The appetizer of onion rings came out with a healthy portion and the oysters were perfect!!!
I always enjoy the restaurant’s diner aesthetic mixed with French quarter charm. It was late on a Monday evening so there weren’t a lot of people dining in. I was able to walk in with no wait. I wish I would’ve asked the bartender for her name to put in this review because she was so kind and professional! Overall 10/10.
We ordered the Combo Dinner, Caesar and House salads, and topped it off with the Strawberry Cheesecake and Coconut Custard Bread Pudding. Everything was delicious and the portion sizes were very generous.
What really stood out was the service. Our server was excellent, attentive and proactive without being overbearing. He checked in to make sure we were doing well but never made us feel rushed. Plus, the food came out incredibly fast despite how hard everyone was working. Highly recommend for anyone looking for authentic flavor and great value!
Now I know to refuse the plates if they don’t look exactly how I want them… KNOWING DAM WELL ITS POSSIBLE to have exactly what I want…
Everything else was good (especially the flatbread that didn’t make it to pictures) besides the bartender messing up my well done oyster dreams.
And boy oh boy it did not disappoint. Deanie’s is a slightly retro looking casual establishment, but there is nothing casual about the food and service.
Our server Champion was a real Champion, no misnomers here. He helped us through the menu and advised on portion sizes (tl;dr they are BIG).
The gumbo and crawfish bisque were out of this world, as were the tomato based dips that came with the calamari and fresh oysters. The other dishes were good, but not out of the ordinary good.
Can’t wait for the next opportunity to dine here.
Happy hour is when we came in— half off excellent charbroiled oysters that were so delicious. We also have the crab and shrimp dip which is so good with the lemon. The drinks are also cheap and well-made. I have nothing but good things to say about this place!
P.S. I took a photo of someone else’s Bloody Mary but it looked amazing.
But if you’re visiting New Orleans, this is definitely a spot you should try. My top recommendation is their gumbo, it’s actually the BEST gumbo I had during my entire trip in New Orleans.
Second, you absolutely have to try their shrimp. The shrimp come with the heads on, so you pull the head off yourself, and then dip the shrimp, along with their French bread or their potatoes, into the shrimp sauce. It’s incredibly delicious.
Lastly, their Seafood Platter is excellent. You don’t have to get it fried; you can also order it boiled, which is another great way to enjoy it.
Overall, I think this is a must-try restaurant. Even if the wait is an hour, it’s absolutely worth it.
