This place is such a gem in Deadwood. From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere pulls you straight into Old West charm—gorgeous chandeliers, historic details, and the most fun seating ever (yes, the horse bar stools are as cool as they look).

The soda bar is fantastic, and the fact that they make their root beer in-house truly sets them apart. You can taste the difference. There are so many creative flavor combinations and house-made sodas, making it fun for kids and adults alike.

What really made this visit special, though, was the owners themselves. They actually sat with us and shared that they opened the soda fountain specifically to give families and kids more to enjoy in Deadwood. You can genuinely feel that intention in every part of the experience—from the welcoming atmosphere to the thoughtful details throughout the space.

Add in the friendly staff, the unique gifts and candy (the rock candy selection is a hit), and this becomes more than just a place to grab a drink—it’s an experience and a memory.

If you’re visiting Deadwood with family, this is an absolute must-stop. We’ll definitely be back.

Brad is the owner and a wonderful guy! Super nice and makes his own root beer, which is delicious. Kid friendly and a must stop. Go all the way to the back of the store for the root beer bar!

The barista was so friendly and recommended the Dirty Deadwood which is now my favorite drink. My little and SO and I tried their three housemate root beers. We also got recommendations on what to do nearby. So glad we found this place!

This was the highlight of our stop in Deadwood, not just for the kids but for the parents, too! We loved the homemade birch beer and the tasty drink concoctions. The owner was very friendly and the kids had a great time talking to him about baseball and root beer. Definitely stop in while you’re in town!!

We stopped at the Deadwood Soda Saloon for a light lunch after reading about their homemade rootbeer. The owner was very engaging and let us sample the rootbeer, sarsparilla, and birch root beers. My husband settled on the rootbeer, and I had the Dirty Deadwood soda (made with Dr. Pepper. Coconut, strawberryand cream). We also had a Deadwood Dog and a Gunslinger Dog.

We had a fun casual lunch in a historic building with a saloon vibe. The fountain is at the very back of a cute store. The Soda Saloon is a great place to take kids, and kids at heart.

Took our kids here for an outstanding, kid friendly saloon experience in Deadwood, SD. The business is family ran and they are absolutely awesome people. The kids had a blast, the drinks were delicious, and the souvenirs they have are top notch and unique. Don’t pass this place up!!!!!

Stopped thru Deadwood with my girls and my you fest insisted we stop in at least once before leaving town. Front of the shop had tons of cool items but we were there for the root beer. He gave us some samples of each kind he had. They all had a unique and wonderful taste. Super friendly folks. Going to be stopping through Deadwood again next year so I will definitely have to stop in again

On a week-long vacation with lots of interesting attractions and expensive meals, both of my children declared The Soda Saloon their favorite part! My 11-year-old was absolutely obsessed with the hot dogs, and my 15-year-old was entranced by the variety of specialty hand mixed sodas. And I can’t say enough good things about the proprietor – who makes his own sarsaparilla and root beer! With free samples! – who was so warm, welcoming and friendly that we couldn’t help but return over and over again. We made some fantastic memories and, though we are from Maryland, would love to be able to return in the future!
