Stopped here on a whim for a drink after having dinner up the street and it was an amazing decision! Bar tender and chef were extremely friendly, front deck was super pleasant, and my cocktail was delicious. We will be back!

Enjoyed a great night there for a memorial celebration. Owner, and his staff went out of there way to ensure everyone had a wonderful time. All the food dishes were excellent and service was quick. Great place to eat and drink with friends or make new ones.

A great neighborhood hangout. Staff is helpful & friendly. Food is amazing. Great people watching spot. They have a small parking lot in front of the bar/restaurant. There is also a fairly large public paid parking lot behind their place – Ck aerial view of Google maps.

The Mule seems to attract a slightly more mature crowd, and has a relaxed atmosphere. We sat on the front patio and watched a fight on the big screen TV, enjoyed the peppery popcorn and piping hot southern egg rolls, while people chatted around us. My only word of caution: the AC unit inside dripped like crazy all over the floor, but the bartender didn’t seem to mind the lawsuit-waiting-to-happen if someone broke their neck walking to the restroom! C’est la vie!

Amazing chicken nachos worth a try. Beer? They got plenty but noticed most people orders PBR. Chill small dive bar where local older folks hang out til 7pm and when the clock strikes at 8pm the young ones comes pouring in. Definitely worth checking out to chill or hang out or just a night cap.

A chill local spot for drinks. Lots of outdoor seating. Although it’s right on Franklin St, it feels secluded, tucked back under the trees. A great place with lots of character.

I had a non-alcoholic apertif, which was good, but it cost $10! That’s pretty steep for a non-alcoholic drink! The atmosphere was really pleasant through!

It’s easy to miss the entrance which gives this bar a “Platform 9 and 3 quarters” vibe. It’s a hidden gem with its own parking lot in downtown Chapel Hill. Very cute bar with minimal indoor seating and much more outdoor seating. Very courteous and friendly clientele, lots of regulars so be sure to make friends with one and they’ll tell you all the gossip. Really cool place to be overall. Cocktails are heavily diluted so maybe stick to beer and shots, more bang for your buck that way. Staff is okay but get to know Sam, the owner, he is wonderful. Additional outdoor area called “Mule West” can be rented for private events.

Atmosphere: It is walking distance from the hotel, and it may seem like a typical college bar at first, but it has more of a “Cheers” atmosphere. Everyone knows everyone. It is a house converted into a restaurant/bar. Limited seating inside, with 4-5 seats at the bar and a few tables in the main area. Another room towards the back. I went during winter break with two buddies. It was still pretty steady, and we were the only ones that weren’t regulars. We joked that we felt like we were sitting in someone’s seat every time a “regular” came in but were made to feel welcomed.

Service: Hands down, service was great! Shannon was accommodating, super friendly, and personable. As stated, we weren’t her regulars, but she made us feel very welcomed and treated us like we were. She provided the same great level of service to us as she did everyone else.

Food (and drinks): Their specialty “Mules” are a must try. Drink prices are very reasonable and have a decent selection to choose from. There are lots of BBQ options as well, but I opted for the Chili special. It came in a large bowl with hush puppies. 4.9 out of 5 only because I’m not a fan of beans, but it was still phenomenal!

I’m definitely looking forward to going back here again.

I stay at hotel next door for business. Always bypass all other restaurants in area and make a point to get authentic North Carolina bbq with beans and greens…also pimento cheese and some hush puppies! I’m live in Pennsylvania. But from North Carolina…this is the real deal!! Always consistent. Warm friendly relaxed!! Great service!!! Really reasonable prices! A true hidden gem!!! Totally recommend!!
