I stepped through their modest entrance on a sunlit afternoon, the door chime echoing like a bell in a forgotten church. The scent hit me first—fresh bread, warm herbs, garlic, and that ever-so-faint, seductive promise of slow-roasted miracles. My order was simple, or so I thought: the legendary Tri-Tip sandwich on their homemade focaccia bread.
Now let me tell you—this wasn’t bread. It was a relic. Thick but soft, crispy edges brushed with oil, speckled with rosemary like some ancient script written by a hungry demigod. The Tri-Tip was piled on like a sacrificial offering—tender, perfectly charred on the edges, the smoky flavor locked in like a spell.
And the minestrone? My God. It didn’t come in a bowl—it arrived in a portal. Each spoonful took me somewhere else. Cannellini beans like smooth river stones. Zucchini, tomato, onion—each vegetable so fresh it felt like it had been plucked from a cursed garden moments before hitting the pot. The broth was deep and comforting, like the embrace of something old and kind… and maybe just a little haunted.
There was, of course, her. The woman on the phone. Loud, obnoxious, the kind of person who thinks everyone’s life needs to hear about her overdue dental work and gym drama. Her voice cut through the room like a rusty saw through Sunday peace. But even she couldn’t ruin the atmosphere. No demon could.
Because once you take a bite at De Vinci’s, you belong to it. And it belongs to you. Forever.
Five stars. But be warned: the craving never leaves.
