Reviews
We loved our pizzas and eggplant sandwich. They are unique and special. The view of the lake is just so special. It’s November time and we were seated outside. So it was cold but the heaters kept us warm. Multiple waiting staff checked on us constantly making sure we are looked after. We really enjoyed our time here.
The food, drinks, and the view are great!! We tried the Italian hero sandwich, caesar salad and the pepperoni pizza
We definitely want to go back. I suggest to reserve specially on cold weather.
Service:
Excellent!! Everyone was super attentive and friendly. Shoutout to our waitress Jenny for making my birthday extra special! Typically you have to go up to the window to place your food orders, but Jenny so kindly took our food & drink orders at our seats so we didn’t have to get up. She even brought me a cup of ice cream with a candle at the end of our meal and sang me happy birthday, which made my night!
Food:
AMAZING. 10/10. Only qualm is it was so cold out when the sun went down, we had to eat fast while the food was hot, so wish they’d spaced out the apps and mains a little more. Here’s what we got:
– Whipped Eggplant w/ Calabrian XO Sauce & Grilled Focaccia (I have a sesame allergy, so we subbed the XO Sauce for hot honey, and it was delishhhh. The focaccia is unreal!!)
– Smoked Trout Dip w/ Herbs & Butter (our least fav of the mix)
– Fried Eggplant Sandwich w/ Fennel-Cucumber Slaw, Basil & Calabrian Aioli on Focaccia (A MUST-HAVE!! Jenny recommended it and she did not steer us wrong. Crunchy, juicy, flavorful, a party in your mouth. Possibly the best eggplant sando I’ve ever had in my life. We were strongly debating coming back the day we left to get another order to go.)
– Pepperoni Pizza, Nonna-Style (Obsessed with their focaccia! Really hit the spot. Fair warning: nonna-style made it very spicy, but I love spicy)
– Vanilla/Chocolate Soft Serve Ice Cream w/ Olive Oil & Sea Salt (Pretty good, not too sweet! I wish the ice cream was a little creamier, but the olive oil and sea salt were a nice touch)
Drinks:
– Lil’ Salty Dawg (refreshing tequila drink with fresh grapefruit!)
– Dirty Martini (the glass seemed a little small, but my bf enjoyed them)
Ambiance:
The lakeside view was gorgeous. The firepit was super cozy! We saw a server bring a blanket out for another guest, so I’m sure you can request one if it’s a little too chilly out. We also really enjoyed the music they were playing on the speakers.
I will absolutely be back next time we’re in Big Bear. Until then, I’m gonna be dreaming about that Fried Eggplant Sando and focaccia!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Updated Review – De La Nonna, Big Bear
As locals here in Big Bear, we’ve been coming to De La Nonna regularly since they first opened, and it’s become one of our favorite spots in town. After several visits (and now with some photos to share), we wanted to post an updated review — because this place continues to get everything right.
The Sicilian and Margherita pizzas are outstanding — light yet flavorful crusts, beautifully balanced toppings, and that perfect wood-fired finish. The Caesar salad is always crisp and fresh, and the desserts are consistently top-notch. The tiramisu remains a classic favorite, but the new brownie dessert absolutely surprised us — it might not sound fancy, but it’s rich, warm, and delicious.
We also love the open-concept (and let friendly) deck with its fire pits, couch and table seating, heaters, and a fantastic view of the lake — it’s the perfect spot to relax with friends, enjoy a cocktail, and take in the open sky and mountain air.
The cocktails are excellent, and the Rispetto Cabernet is a standout that pairs perfectly with any of their pizzas.
Jennifer, the manager, is always visible and engaged — checking on tables, chatting with guests, and making everyone feel welcome. We’re usually lucky enough to be served by Athena, who is wonderful — friendly, attentive, and professional. In truth, the whole staff reflects that same warmth and care.
De La Nonna continues to be a gem in Big Bear — consistently great food, genuine hospitality, and a setting that’s hard to beat. We feel lucky to have it right here in our mountain community.
Original review:
Really enjoying the new BBL waterfront restaurant, De La Nonna. Wonderful atmosphere with a beautiful outdoor patio complete with lake view and fire pits. Been there a few times and the food and service have all been exceptional. My wife has settled on the Margarita Pizza, and I am sold on the Sicilian Pizza, both excellent. Keep seeing the Caesar salad go by and thinking it looks incredible, might have to add that to the pizza order next time. Tiramisu was amazing as well. Hoping they expand their wine selection a bit in the coming months.
Athena our server was great, and the manager (Jennifer) came by, and was truly interested in our experience, and clearly wants this business to do well. I’m sure it will under her leadership, and with the fantastic food, staff, view, and beverages. Being able to walk there from the house is a plus, walking back (uphill) full of pizza, wine and Tiramisu, not as fun. But worth it. Go see Jennifer and her staff for a great meal in an epic setting.
The only odd thing is the service, you are instructed to order at the counter or the bar, but servers would occasionally check in and take our order but we were unsure if we had a server. It was a little confusing. Hopefully this is fixed soon.
The pizza and salad were delicious. We will be returning!
