We were finally sat down and we placed our order by means of the Groupon set menu. The appetizer included one mussel with hair on it and one with something crunchy on the inside. The soup was next, which involved a lobster bisque served on top of mashed potatoes and a (french?) onion soup served on top of a single onion ring. The mains were passible, but by the time we were ready for dessert we just wanted to leave.
We were promptly ignored for nearly 20 minutes. We tried flagging the waitress twice, where the second time she advised us that she would get our original waiter. We wanted to ask for our dessert to be packed and requested the bill. Our waiter took some extra time because he was occupied scribbling something down before finally bringing us the bill with a full breakdown written on the receipt on how much 15%, 20%, and 25% tip for our meal would cost. Keep in mind that again, we purchased the Groupon set menu; so when he brought the full bill with the machine already set for the full price, he was ready to double charge us when all we needed to pay was taxes. We promptly corrected the error and I ended up leaving a cash tip.
Moments before leaving the establishment, we saw our waiter RUNNING to our table to count the tip we left. As we approached our car, the waiter CAME OUT and told us that he recommends a 15% tip. I asked whether this percentage was mandatory in which he replied no. He asked why we tipped so little and we advised him that our service was poor. Bizarre.
The cherry on top: when we got home and checked the cheesecake dessert provided, they were each the diameter of a toonie.
TLDR; don’t eat here.
Service: friendly and attentive
Food: I tried the one of the dinner set, foie gras and lobster bisque are great and mixed green are awesome, Salmon is a bit dry. I visited this restaurant years ago, food standard is still great. Overall experience is pleasant. Price and food portion are reasonable.
I booked this restaurant for Valentine’s Day and when we arrived the atmosphere was intimate. The issues began the moment we were presented the menu and the server asked what we would like to drink. We asked for cold water, but the server repeated that we asked for warm water. So we went with it, no big deal.
We ordered the 2nd tier of the Valentine’s set course. However when the appetizers arrived, we were served the wrong set menu. We asked the server, however she was insistent that we ordered the lower tier menu. We went with it anyways even though we clarified that we were served the wrong set.
We looked over to the group on the right, that is when we realized that the server was placing her serving tray directly on the floor, picking up the dishes, then serving the group with their meals. By then we reached our dessert course. This is when we noticed that our items were also served off of the floor.
When settling the bill, the server stood directly over us and said, “the minimum tip is 15%.” I felt uneasy as the service was not acceptable but gave the 15% she asked for anyways.
Overall, I’m unimpressed.
For spending over $400 for 4 I would absolutely expect way better food and service
It was HORRIBLE…
1- salad:: great
2- mussels.: over cooked and no taste
3- oysters: served raw, which is fine, but it’s the type of oysters you’d normally eat cooked and not raw otherwise it taste weird.
4- we ordered more 12 oysters but à la carte and they were slightly smaller but still big and honestly no taste. I didn’t want to finish them but my wife insisted…
5- now comes what we came here for : ANGUS. I asked mine for rare and they were medium rare but worst: they were chewy and hard but NOTHING like the nice juicy steak you would expect… I ate only 1/4 and my wife 1/3. We took the rest home for our dog… it was one of the worst dinner out.
Now comes the bill: they automatically charged 18.5%
Total for the night : $200 including the Groupon and the extra oysters and tax and tips.
Total rip off… we would have had a better dinner at some Vietnamese pho for 1/4 of the price..
Horrible dinner
Service was great though
I told my wife to NEVER go there again
Price is fair, food is just ok, service is so so. But they were probably short on people, so the waiting time was quite long and we had to eat a lot of breads.
One thing made me didn’t give a 4 stars reviews was that we were told that there was a mandatory minimum tip of 15%. But in Canada, there’s no law that mandates a specific tip amount. Tipping is a voluntary practice and the amount you give depends on the quality of service and your own discretion!
Well, we still tipped 15%, but I found the machine default is 15% AFTER tax.
Based on the overall experience, I won’t visit again.
