I ordered the Sakura roll and the shrimp tempura, both were presented beautifully and tasted fresh. They had so much flavor I didn’t even use soy sauce.
I came on a Friday in the middle of the day and the whole park was empty, so there was plenty of parking.
This isn’t near me, but I would definitely come again.
Dawa Sushi is a food truck located in a food truck park, with plenty of picnic tables scattered around for dining. It seems to be run by an older Korean couple, which adds a charming, homey touch.
We stopped by on a Friday for lunch and took advantage of their happy hour (available before 3 PM). We ordered the Dawa Roll Combo for $16.50, which includes two classic rolls and your choice of a half specialty roll (Barton Springs, Zilker Park, Spicy Onion Crunchy, or Phoenix). We went with the Crunch Roll (avocado, cucumber, crab meat, eel sauce, spicy mayo, and crunchy flakes), Eel Roll (baked eel, avocado, cucumber, eel sauce, and sesame seeds), and the Zilker Park Roll (crab meat and avocado, topped with more avocado, eel sauce, spicy mayo, and sesame seeds).
While all the rolls were good and tasted fresh, they leaned on the simpler side and had fairly similar flavor profiles. The Zilker Park Roll was my favorite of the three.
The food took about 10–15 minutes to come out, and everything tasted fresh and light. After eating, we brought our plate back up to the counter. We plan on coming back to try some of their other rolls, especially the ones with fish.
The venue and the service are the epitome of no frills.
All the effort. All the attention. All the care. That goes to the food.
My kids loved the mixed options platter where my son discovered a love for octopus .
There are many sit down establishments that charge quite a bit more that could stand to learn from this humble but mighty food truck.
The gyoza were a huge hit as well.
We will be back.
(There is a shared Playground: it is oddly and very unsafely situated within the parking lot while nice to have a playground be careful of cars immediately outside the play area – this is no fault of the business it is owned by the space they rent from – but parent beware.)
The salmon was buttery, fresh, and melted in my mouth.
I was about to spend more money, but the lady taking my order told me to turn the menu over and showed me some cheaper deals that had exactly what I was in the mood for!
Then, while I was eating, I looked up and noticed they were both peeking around the corner to make sure I liked it!
Overall, a very wholesome and warm experience with delicious food. 10/10 will return.
Oh, and I had the Sakura roll + happy hour special (4 pieces salmon nigiri + a California roll that’s not like any other California roll I’ve ever had – it was big!)
