Davies is a classic diner experience, offering old-fashioned service and great value. It’s a bit of a drive from where we live, but it’s definitely worth the trip. The food is also fantastic. I tried the pork tenderloin sandwich, and it was very good—thin, crisp, and served with a tasty brioche bun. My wife enjoyed the handyman with chicken fried steak, and it was also very good.

If you’re in the mood for a good brunch or comfort food, Davies is the place to go.

Food: my wife got a chicken fried steak I got the chuckwagon sirloin. We split each item to taste the other. The chicken fried steak is something we consistently order at diners/brunch places and this is the best of the 5 places we’ve been to so far. The breading was great, and I’d say they get an edge on the gravy compared to others too. “This is the first gravy of the places we’ve been that actually adds good flavor and isn’t just there” is what my wife said. I wouldn’t go that far as to say the gravy at other places adds nothing, but imo it was noticeably superior. I also got a side of the Fall menu pumpkin pancakes and it was amazing; I’ll have to try their regular pancakes in the future for a fair comparison to other locations, but they were good. I suspect they were Golden pancake/waffle batter (or at least used some golden ingredients), and that’s a good thing since pancakes derived from that brand are the best pancakes/waffles in my experience. The hashbrowns were the best we have had at the 5 places we’ve visited; whoever they had cooking today knew how to actually brown them and make them crispy. The churros were good. Not the best I’ve had, but they were definitely made fresh which I appreciated, so I’d give them a 4/5 on that (but everything else was honestly a 5). They were just slightly overdone in my amateur estimation.

Food, visit 2: tried the lunch menu the next day because we enjoyed breakfast so much. The philly cheesesteak was solid. I lived in Philly for 3 years so I can’t give it a perfect score, but I’d say it was pretty close—much closer than I’d expect a diner to get. Fries were solid. My wife got the Rueben. We split both sandwiches so we both got to try both. The Rueben was very good imho. We also got an Oreo shake which was better than at the other diner’s we’ve patronized recently. Overall, the lunch visit was 5 for food, so whether lunch or brunch you’ll be happy.

Service: 100% 5 stars. Our server, Jeremiah, is amazing and I hope they treat him well. He was super knowledgeable about the menu and helped guide us through things I’m definitely going to try in the future. He also helped us look through the lunch menu because we loved this place so much I want to try a lunch item tomorrow. He gave us good insights as well—what’s made exclusively in house, what’s original, what contains pre-made ingredients and is less of a specialty, etc. Loved that. He guided us well, and I hope he stays so he can guide us in the future! I feel like this is a place where if you become a regular you’d get treated well.

Service, visit 2: We had Jeremiah again and he was excellent. He brought me a pitcher of Diet Coke because of how much of that I drink. 5/5. Absolutely legend.

Atmosphere: it’s a 1957 diner on the register of historic places, even if you had a bad experience otherwise, atmosphere is gonna be a 5/5. Sure, it’s old. Rickety. It looks well worn. But that’s the charm. Competing diners try to imitate the 50s aesthetic, but this *is* the 50s aesthetic. It’s actually from that time. And that’s why you want to come here: you drive by and see this grimy, classic nostalgic 1950s diner, and it’s exactly that. So I’d give this a 5/5 atmosphere.

Looking forward to coming here tomorrow and in the future. I’ll try to remember to update my review as I try new items so I can tell people what’s good to get. I forgot to take photos of our entrees this morning but attached is a photo of the churros; I’ll try to add more as we return.

Edit: Photos of food will be attached if I remember to take them. It’s all good!

Had a great Chicken Waffle here and a Chocolate Vanilla Milkshake. Service was awesome. What a surprise at the end, I figured out that this diner was a piece of history. Glad to have chosen this little treasure place for my lunch. Must visit

This place has their Mega burrito which is absolutely awesome the service is great it’s clean as a whistle and a real institution on Colfax. I’d like to say the breakfast burrito is on par with red roosters. And that’s saying a lot because that may be the best burrito in this town. Prices are reasonable and the coffee is some of the best. I’d literally come here just for the coffee. There’s plenty of parking around back as well.

A very cool joint that has been around since at least 1958. The staff was ok, and the food good, but just eating there was the coolest for nastalgia.

What a throwback to another time! Rustic ‘50’s kind of atmosphere with indoor booths and counter seating and outdoor dining as well. Good menu of rib-stickin’ grub straight from the “chuck wagon” – including a 6 egg omelette – be still my heart – oh, after that, it probably will be! Fantastic biscuit and gravy (in pic it does not look so appetizing, but it was very good); American Eggs Benedict was good (though poached eggs were a little underdone), hash browns awesome. Fast, attentive service and incredible value for the dollar.

We came from NC and I had this place on my wishlist forever! I LOVE local old diners, and NC is lacking. The sign was amazing. Love the horse! And the food was better than expected. Great value and quality. I had the steak and eggs (cowboy?) and my husband had the bluebird. Wasn’t crowded. Nice and clean. Great service. 10/10 would def be back

This place is a little dated but it’s still a great place with a good aged vintage character, I went in, got a double double, it was a decent price, it was great food and you got so much for the price.

The burger was so big I couldn’t fit it in my mouth, a good problem to have. You paid for one Coke and free refills past the 1st, I probably drank 10 bucks of the 20 I spent.
The staff were also very helpful, they came by asking every 5-10 minutes, kept asking if I needed anything or refills and never rushed me out. I was very happy and will probably come to eat there more often.

If you’re a fan of 50s era culture like me this is a good place to go!

Great diner. A classic diner, lots of items to choose from on the menu. Breakfast is served all day. Nice that you can get alcoholic drinks if you want. Great service was offered, with the food coming out fast.

As a long time customer today will be our last. As a business owner I understand cost of doing business. Our two meals that cost $30 with tip even a year ago was $50 today. The new owner doesn’t get basic economics, give the customer as much as possible with the best quality as possible and at a good price. People will line up out the door, which is what the previous owner had. People used to wait 1/2 hour or more to get a table, that is in the past. Steak and eggs was $10 and is now $17.50, smaller portions as well. Noticed today that the new owner took down all of the pictures of ‘50’s music and actor stars. The new menu is complicated and leaves one frustrated. Sorry Davies, as a long time customer, we won’t be returning.
