TO LIVE AND FRY IN L.A. In 2017, four childhood friends came up with a simple concept — take Nashville Hot Chicken and make it better than anyone else in America. With only a couple thousand dollars to their name, they boot-strapped a pop-up concept in a parking lot in East Hollywood serving a simple menu of tenders, sliders, fries, and kale slaw — they created a viral cult following with lines consistently over an hour long.

Rolling up to **Dave’s Hot Chicken** in Chino Hills’ Crossroads Marketplace, you’re hit with that unmistakable Nashville heat wafting from the vents—spicy, smoky, and straight-up seductive ️ . The spot’s a no-nonsense counter joint: neon red walls, blaring hip-hop, and a line that snakes but moves quick (under 10 mins on a Friday night). It’s the kind of place where families and post-gym crews mingle over paper trays, and the self-serve soda fountain flows like Niagara.
The **top-loaded fries** ($8.50)? Absolute MVPs—crispy golden shoestrings piled high with shredded cheese, chopped tenders, Dave’s signature sauce, and pickles for that tangy crunch. Dive in with a fork, and it’s a messy, melty explosion of spice levels from “Reaper” to “No Habenero”—I went medium and regretted not bumping it up. The fries stay crisp under the load, no soggy betrayal, and that sauce? Tangy-sweet fire that lingers just right. Worth the napkin massacre every time .
The **fried tenders** ($9 for 2 pieces)? Solid players but not MVPs—juicy inside, crunchy breading, but the seasoning feels a tad one-note compared to the bolder birds at spots like Howlin’ Ray’s or Prince Street Pizza’s fried chicken pop-ups. They’re hot and fresh, no doubt, but I’d tweak the brine for more punch next time. Sides like kale slaw add a fresh counterpoint, and the milkshake (try the strawberry) cuts the burn like a dream .
Service is speedy and smiley—staff slings orders with zero attitude, and it’s all card-friendly. Value’s on point for fast-casual heat ($15-20 feeds one). Dave’s nails the fry game and keeps things fun, but for tenders that wow, I’ll detour elsewhere. Still, Chino Hills needed this; I’m back for those loaded spuds next week.
If you’re craving something quick with a little heat and full of flavor, Dave’s Hot Chicken won’t let you down!
Although orders are placed at the kiosk, there’s a staff member who calls out names as the orders are ready. Axel, one of the staff members, stood out, he was incredibly friendly and even helped me carry part of my order to my table. I really appreciated his kindness and assistance.
Overall, it was a great experience, and I’d definitely come back!
What really elevated the experience, though, was the excellent customer service. Sebastian was friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming, making sure everything was just right and answering any of my questions with a great attitude. His positive energy made the visit even more enjoyable. Great food paired with great service always makes a lasting impression, and Dave’s Hot Chicken definitely delivered.
