TO LIVE AND FRY IN L.A. In 2017, four childhood friends came up with a simple concept — take Nashville Hot Chicken and make it better than anyone else in America. With only a couple thousand dollars to their name, they boot-strapped a pop-up concept in a parking lot in East Hollywood serving a simple menu of tenders, sliders, fries, and kale slaw — they created a viral cult following with lines consistently over an hour long.

The chicken is of high quality- wow! We were very impressed! We ordered quite a bit for the family! The chicken sandwiches were great, enough flavor but not overwhelming. Although the medium almost had no heat. Still tasted super

The fries were seasoned to perfection. I liked them, but I can see how the over seasoning can be overpowering for some people.

The chicken bites were good as well. Very good quality, almost didn’t even need anything else with or on them. But that Dave’s sauce we definitely didn’t grab enough because we ran out quick and were desperate for some more!

The guy helping at the front wasn’t the friendliest. I couldn’t care less for that whole interaction. He was confused and wasn’t sure what was happening. Gave me the wrong information, then got it figured out. But nonetheless front of the house should at least be kind and friendly. ♀️ oh well – can’t ask for it all!

Definitely I’ll be back for more! Thank you for a great meal ✨
On the positive side, the ambiance and service were great. The staff were friendly and efficient, and the place was spotless — they cleaned tables right after each customer. The washrooms were also clean, and there’s plenty of free parking outside, which made our visit convenient.
It’s also halal, which is a big plus for many people. Overall, great service and cleanliness, but the food didn’t quite live up to the hype for me.
I ordered my usual which is the Dave’s #3: 1 tender & 1 slider w/ fries (medium) and my husband ordered Dave’s #1: 2 tenders w/ fries (medium) and a side of their mac & cheese. Every time we come here, I always ask for extra Dave’s sauce and honey on the side. I don’t know if they were having an off day at this location, but our chicken was over-cooked. The flavor was good, but it was a bit crispy and dry. On the other hand, the fries were cooked and seasoned to perfection. The mac n cheese was creamy, cheesy, and very tasty. The slider, which has fresh kale slaw and crisp pickles was absolutely delicious, especially when you drizzle the honey on top of it. It’s the main reason I keep coming back for more.
The chicken is consistently crispy, juicy, and packed with flavor. You can really tell they’ve dialed in their seasoning and heat levels — whether you’re going mild or pushing into the extra hot territory, it still tastes good and not just “spicy for the sake of spicy.” I personally got mild, and it still had great flavor with just enough kick.
From a business standpoint, Dave’s feels like it’s following a success path similar to Raising Cane’s — focused menu, strong branding, fast service, and a cult-like following. Honestly though, I think Dave’s is better than Cane’s. The flavor is stronger, the vibe is more energetic, and the music is louder, which gives it more personality.
Now, about the shakes: I’ll be real — they’re mid. Not terrible, but not amazing either. However, adding cereal definitely helps and gives the shake more flavor and texture, so that’s the move if you order one.
Overall: great chicken, strong brand, better vibe than Cane’s, and a spot I’d recommend if you’re craving something flavorful and satisfying. Dave’s Hot Chicken is a real contender in the chicken game.
I’m sad I waited so long to try it out.
Staff is fast & friendly. Restaurants are located in great neighborhoods at convenient locations with free parking lots.
We have tried several different menu items: a chicken sandwich, Dave’s bites, loaded fries and the chicken tenders and everything was tasty.
The flavors are incredible , excellent spice, excellent crunch, great coleslaw. I also liked the sauce with it ( definitely a must have with the chicken). The crinkle cut fries is very tasty too.
You get to select how spicy you want the chicken, we got it lite mild which was perfect, not too spicy ,but not bland either.
My wife likes it “no spice ” and it is perfectly seasoned as well and chicken tenders are so juicy and perfectly crispy, not dry at all.
The staff is super friendly and welcoming. They are very attentive and helpful. We have met the manager and she is so nice, friendly and customer oriented.
The atmosphere is very vibrant, cool and inviting. The restaurant is clean and very nice, also very spacious. It is beautifully decorated with colorful graffiti art. Very Instagramable!!!
Highly recommended!!! Definitely worth the visit, it is much better than Raising Cane’s !!!
However all their seasoning are dry rubs and none of us liked that. If you go, think about getting it plain.
No place to wash up except the single use bathrooms. Your hands will get covered in the dry rub seasoning.
