TO LIVE AND FRY IN L.A. In 2017, four childhood friends came up with a simple concept — take Nashville Hot Chicken and make it better than anyone else in America. With only a couple thousand dollars to their name, they boot-strapped a pop-up concept in a parking lot in East Hollywood serving a simple menu of tenders, sliders, fries, and kale slaw — they created a viral cult following with lines consistently over an hour long.

The staff was friendly and kind and had nice smiles. The music was energetic and fun. The wall art was very impressive, and I love the use of the rubber chicken in the logos and on the tulsa driller.I’m painting on the wall. very funny! I had the medium heat and it was a little bit light so that I hardly noticed any heat at all. next time I would probably try more heat. My only critique is that it could have used more salt in my opinion.
So how was it?
Food: The entire menu looked angry—heat, heat everywhere! Chicken this… chicken that… The boys went with the number two, and I chose the chicken bites. Not knowing the heat levels, we played it safe and went with medium. I was hoping the girl taking our order would weigh in, since it was clearly our first time, but no. She barely had a half-faint smile, not even a hint of help to guide us.
On that note, let’s talk about the service.
Service: Dull. No real sense of customer experience. Like I mentioned before, not even an attempt to guide us on what to expect from the heat levels offered. What surprised me even more was that when I selected no tip—because I believe a tip must be earned—her demeanor became even flatter than it already was. So no… no tip for under-average customer service.
Atmosphere: Now, that was different. The atmosphere truly has a unique touch, one that gets you excited about what you’re about to experience. Even the bathrooms were clean.
As for the chicken bites and the seasonings, they were just too sweet and overpowering for me. I’m sure there are people out there who probably love this, but for me, it wasn’t worth the overpriced chicken. Add the bland customer service to the mix, and that equals not another visit.
Thanks!
Finally the day has arrived. Was waiting for Daves to open here in Tulsa for past couple of months. Visited them on the grand opening day. As expected, there was a big line for lunch. Ordered the 1 tender/1 slider with fries. It comes with Daves sauce and pickles. Since I ordered “Hot”, placed an order for a small vanilla shake too. Due to the rush, it took around 10-15 mins to get the order.
Loved the flavor of the chicken and the portion size is big. “Medium” might be more comfortable to eat though “Hot” is not very spicy. The vanilla shake was not upto the mark. It had a different taste to it(not sure what it is). It is expensive than okc daves which I felt bit disappointed. So Im giving a 4*
The line moved surprisingly fast and I didn’t wait long for my food.
I ordered medium spice on my slider and tenders, but I would probably go hotter next time.
The slaw on the slider was excellent.
The chicken had a good flavor and the fries were seasoned well.
The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The overall vibes in the place are great.
It was crazy busy, but from the time of line up to the time we started eating was only about 30mins.
5/5 – worth the drive out there and the wait. And if you dont wanna wait, just grubhub/doordash/ubereats order it ahead of time. Because they do have a side window outside where you can pick up your food and leave.
