Dave’s Hot Chicken

  4.1 – 342 reviews   • American restaurant

TO LIVE AND FRY IN L.A. In 2017, four childhood friends came up with a simple concept — take Nashville Hot Chicken and make it better than anyone else in America. With only a couple thousand dollars to their name, they boot-strapped a pop-up concept in a parking lot in East Hollywood serving a simple menu of tenders, sliders, fries, and kale slaw — they created a viral cult following with lines consistently over an hour long.

Tried Dave’s Hot Chicken in Lee’s Summit for lunch. I got the 2 piece with mild seasoning and fries while my wife got the 1 piece with 1 slider and fries with no seasoning and a shake. To start off expect to wait 15-20 minutes for your order, I assume they cook the chicken as it is ordered. The water glass they gave me wasn’t much bigger than a shot glass so glad I didn’t get the hot seasoning. The shake was a small $4.00, and it was small and tasted like a McDonalds shake. Not sure it is actually ice cream because it wasn’t very cold when we got it. As for the chicken, the pieces were pretty good size and very tender. I did not care for the taste of the mild seasoning, however my wife did so I guess that is just personal preference. One gripe was the tablespoon of dipping sauce they give you. You would think it had gold flakes in it for the Stingy amount they give you. Fries were good and crispy. Overall it was just okay for me and a little pricey. $36.00 for what we got. I’m sure they are blaming tariffs like everyone else. Interesting to note that they are located across the parking lot from Buffalo Wild Wings my preference for spicy chicken is still Gus’s Chicken!!

This place is really well decorated, the atmosphere is awesome and very clean! The food can be incredibly good, however the chicken strips I received were kind of dry. I would suggest the bites over the tenders as it seems those come out better. There was a really large gap between me and my friend ordering even though we ordered right after one another, so he was done eating by the time I got my food.

Dave’s Hot Chicken absolutely delivers. The chicken is perfectly juicy on the inside with that crispy, flavorful crust on the outside that hits you as soon as you take a bite. Their spice levels are legit—from mild with great flavor all the way to Reaper if you’re feeling brave.

The sliders are the standout: soft buns, crunchy slaw, pickles, and that signature Dave’s sauce that ties everything together. The tenders are huge and cooked just right, never dry. Even the fries hold their own—crispy, seasoned, and great for dipping.

Overall, the food is fresh, consistent, and loaded with flavor. If you’re craving real hot chicken with big portions and bold seasoning, Dave’s is always worth the stop.

Alright Dave. Food was fire! We tried the medium, hot, and extra hot sliders. The hot was the equivalent of a spicy McChicken. If I were to just have a great chicken sandwich I would go medium. If I wanted to have fun I would go Reaper. The chicken is just so moist and crisy. The place had a nice look but the cleanness was really bad. Just stuff all over the ground. Would have given a five if it was cleaner. Besides that everything else and the staff was great.

BLUF: seems like they are confused on what they want to be. Food was good

Ordering:
Walked in to a nice restaurant with a decent amount of chicken options. The guy behind the counter was kind and asked if I had questions about the menu and I said no, but he explained the menu anyway. We placed two orders for the saucy flight and this is where I feel like they started getting confused on what kind of restaurant they wanna be. He asked if I wanted ranch I said sure he said how many said are they big he said no they’re small. I said four and then looked on the register and they were charging $1.50 for ranch. A wing place charging for ranch is like McDonald’s charging for ketchup or Taco Bell charging for taco sauce. If they are hurting that bad, they may want to look at their business model. Told him no thank you and he removed them. We asked for water cups and they gave us 5 oz cups that are a little larger than a shot glass. When I went to pay he asked me if I wanted to tip? This was also confusing because I was standing at the counter ordering and they give you a pager to come pick your food up. You also get your own drinks, clean your own table, and throw away your own trash. Not sure what I would tip for. They also offered a military discount but only if you were in uniform, which is interesting since the closest base is 50 miles away

Cost was $37 for two meals with water and no extra sauce with a Mac and cheese side.

Food:
Food took about 12 minutes to be ready which again felt more like a restaurant timeline but everything was set up like a fast food place.
Food was hot and good. Three wing sauces were Dave’s hot honey (my favorite because it had good heat but also sweet) classic buffalo (very good with a little more spice), spicy bbq (good flavor and some pieces were spicy some were just BBQ).

I didn’t try any of the shakes but they looked good

Seemed like a lot of take out orders

Good food just not sure I’d eat there again unless someone just wanted to. You could go to Buffalo Wild Wings next door, pay the same price, probably same service, and have a sit down meal or go to canes and get everything here just faster and way cheaper.

I went in around three pm so that is probably why my experience was a little off. The wait was quite long to receive our order, but when the food arrived it was cold. There was one worker who was working the counter and cleaning all the table tops, sweeping, etc. She was a superstar and very helpful. We ordered a small top loaded fry and an 8 piece sauced wing. The total came in just over $20 with a drink.

Super tasty! Mild is hot enough for me.. we tried the hot and it was extremely spicy! The chicken is juicy, fries are flavorful, and the meals are big! A 10 piece is too much for me, but price wise you get a ton for your money!

See 1st picture. I ordered 5 cauliflower tenders thru delivery and this is so disrespectful in what I received from this store. 2 of them looked like the 1 in the picture at the bottom. A couple others were small as well, but I could deal with those but not the 2 like this. Why would someone prepare that and be okay with sending that to a customer? Sad thing is I ordered them the day before and received them exactly as advertised covering the whole slice of bread. Quality and taste was really good. Then ordered them the next day and got smacked in the face. SMH

The tagged, spray painted walls were a nice touch.

The fries had a light seasoning that was pretty good. The Mac and cheese seemed like an after thought, and was just your basic side of Mac.

For the chicken, I tried the mild, medium, and hot flavors. Overall, the chicken has a nice crunchy coating. The mild chicken has no heat, but an unexpected slightly sweet flavor. There wasn’t really any noticeable difference between the mild and medium – they could have given me two of the same, for all I noticed. The hot was a big jump in heat level, but that helped hide the slight sweet tang. Overall, pretty good. In some ways, I was hoping to be instantly addicted, based on some of the reviews I’d previously read. But while it was tasty, for me it didn’t register as anything special.

Really good. I got the med sauce and could have used a hotter sauce but I wanted to see what temp of sauce we were dealing with. Crinkle fries and seasoning is really good. I got the Dave’s sauce on the side also as they dont have mayo or ranch. I would for sure go back and get another sandwich and or tenders.
