TO LIVE AND FRY IN L.A. In 2017, four childhood friends came up with a simple concept — take Nashville Hot Chicken and make it better than anyone else in America. With only a couple thousand dollars to their name, they boot-strapped a pop-up concept in a parking lot in East Hollywood serving a simple menu of tenders, sliders, fries, and kale slaw — they created a viral cult following with lines consistently over an hour long.

The service was friendly and the cashier did a great job walking through the dishes. I opted for a medium heat sheet they said you’ll get a bit of kick- more on that in a bit. The combo included a slider and a chicken strip and fries. I ordered a strawberry lemonade minute maid slush to pair with my meal.
The wait time was about 8 minutes and the packaging for the food was well laid out on the platter.
The food was really good with extra thick pickles with a good crunch not soggy or drenched in pickle juice. The fries had a nice dusting of cajun like seasoning. The slush wasn’t too sweet. The slider had a good amount of spice to it without being too much on the heat.
The restaurant also has fountain beverages and there is a drive through with ample parking. It is a bit cramped in the lot as they are situated next to another fast food restaurant. I would definitely come back and try more. The combo was about $20.
it. On top of that, it is expensive. I don’t see this place lasting too long. Not a knock on the staff. It was clean, and they provided hot, well cooked food, but the recipe is a love or hate thing, and I just don’t see a lot of people continuing to come back over and over. I hope I am wrong.
We placed a pickup order that was supposed to be ready at 4:15 p.m. (that was the ready time, not when we ordered). When I arrived, I ended up waiting until 4:40 p.m. to receive it. Even though it was frustrating, I tried to be understanding. I know delays can happen, especially if a place is busy. But there was only one person in front of me, so the long wait felt confusing.
When I was handed the bag, I specifically asked the employee if the side of coleslaw was included (since it was listed on a separate ticket). He said yes in a tone that felt dismissive, almost like it was obvious and I shouldn’t have asked. I brushed it off and assumed everything was correct.
But when we drove off and decided to double-check the bag, (just in case) we realized we were missing an ENTIRE meal — a 10 piece order, the coleslaw I had just asked about, and a sauce we paid for. We then had to drive all the way back to have it corrected.
While they did say they would remake the missing items, I started checking the rest of the order more closely and noticed the mac and cheese container was barely filled, I am seriously talking less than half full. It honestly looked like someone had already eaten out of it. When I mentioned it, the employee admitted it was “the last bits” they had.
And that was the part… that was really disappointing. It’s one thing to run out of something, but knowingly sending out an underfilled side, especially for a to-go order, doesn’t feel right. Customers should receive full portions of what they pay for & I’m not even going to get into what the sides of coleslaw looked like.
The employee was polite, and I appreciate that, but overall the experience felt careless. Between the late pickup time, missing items, and underfilled food, it just wasn’t what we expected.
I don’t usually leave negative reviews, but this experience really missed the mark, and unfortunately I won’t be returning.
I’d recommend a combo option that includes a drink!
Currently, the drink is extra.
(Medium) UPDATE: STILL VERY LOUD INSIDE four weeks later. Loud ice machine and very loud music. Had to ask the order taker to repeat herself multiple times to complete my order.
