TO LIVE AND FRY IN L.A. In 2017, four childhood friends came up with a simple concept — take Nashville Hot Chicken and make it better than anyone else in America. With only a couple thousand dollars to their name, they boot-strapped a pop-up concept in a parking lot in East Hollywood serving a simple menu of tenders, sliders, fries, and kale slaw — they created a viral cult following with lines consistently over an hour long.

Dave’s Hot Chicken in Middletown has a fun energetic vibe and some great visual touches but the food experience fell a bit short. The inside is decorated with really cool artwork that gives the place personality and the touch screen ordering system is convenient and easy to use especially when the line is moving fast.
Unfortunately the food itself was underwhelming this time. The chicken in my slider came out only lukewarm and the fries were the same. Nothing really tasted fresh which was disappointing given the hype and the prices. The seasoning and spice concept are there but temperature and freshness matter and that took away from the overall experience.
Service was efficient and the place was busy which shows it is popular. I just wish the food had matched the energy of the space.
Dave’s Hot Chicken still has potential and the concept is solid but for me the execution missed the mark. The atmosphere and ordering system were highlights but the food needs to come out hotter and fresher to make it worth a return visit.

This is the best chicken so far and I’ve been to over 20+ countries and all 50 states and been to 200+ chicken restaurants/food trucks. The vibe inside is very cool and reminds me of my childhood food court back in guam. This restaurant lives up to all the social media hype. I’ve been here many times and the only reason why I didn’t give the food 5 stars is because the spice level is inconsistent, like one time I ordered medium and it tasted mild close to no spice. Then the next time I came here medium tasted very hot. The service is great overall but one time the manager came out and gave me and my little sister a free shake and a slushie.

Feels like a laser tag place! The food was good I got the medium sauce. Two tenders, on a bun doe, we call them sliders round deez parts. Water tasted fresh, refilled my cup multiple times, thanks Dave.

It’s sooo delicious & the staff seemed nice! My boyfriend ordered the food but he said they were nice to him! But definitely recommend the chicken there! He got the sliders I got the chicken tenders! I’ve tried hot i found it spicy then I got medium and it was perfect! And the Mac and cheese, fries, & the kale side all so good!

The service was good and the staff very friendly.
The chicken quality was excellent, but I would say for me it’s over seasoned and that makes the outside breading hard and somewhat dry. You can overcome this by adding more Dave’s sauce and pickles, but overall it wasn’t anything super special.
Fries are a bit boring, just basic crinkle fries with some kind of old bay seasoning.
For me it doesn’t rank above many other main stream Chicken shops. I Would not make a special trip for it, but would go back again.

I tried the Medium spice (#3) at Dave’s Hot Chicken, and it hit that perfect balance between flavor and heat. The chicken was crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and packed with seasoning that really stood out. The spice level was noticeable but not overwhelming—it gave a nice kick without distracting from the flavor of the chicken. If you like a little heat but don’t want to break a sweat, this is a great option. Pairing it with the creamy sauce and pickles balanced everything out perfectly. Definitely a solid go-to spice level for enjoying the chicken without overdoing it.

I was excited to find out this joint was along the route and of course had to try it due to all the online hype. The decor throughout the restaurant is eclectic and vibrant. The counter attendant was fairly nice. The food was hot and fresh, but not sure what so the hype is about? Chicken was so-so at best.

We went on a Saturday, and throughout our dining experience, it got busy. Our food was hot and fresh. You may be wondering why I gave them a 3 Star rating…..
1) Both bathrooms needed to be checked. The bathroom I went into had no toilet paper, and the bathroom my husband went into had no toilet paper or hand soap. I said something to an employee, but I didn’t see anyone take action to fix the problems.
2) You have to pay extra for drinks.. I don’t understand why drinks aren’t included with a meal.
3) No kids meals …. My personal opinion is that all places should offer kids meals.
Overall, the food was delicious, but it made me wonder if they don’t have soap in the bathrooms…. how do the employees wash their hands?
