Dave’s Hot Chicken

  4.4 – 154 reviews   • Chicken restaurant

TO LIVE AND FRY IN L.A. In 2017, four childhood friends came up with a simple concept — take Nashville Hot Chicken and make it better than anyone else in America. With only a couple thousand dollars to their name, they boot-strapped a pop-up concept in a parking lot in East Hollywood serving a simple menu of tenders, sliders, fries, and kale slaw — they created a viral cult following with lines consistently over an hour long.

This place has some of the best fried chicken I’ve ever tasted. It was hot, juicy, crispy, and they give you lots of different spice levels to choose from. I got the #2 from the menu and what i really liked was that the slider buns didnt soak up the sauce and the two buns are actually connected, kind of like a clam-shape. The level of sauce on the slider was nice, not too much so that sauce was just running down onto the plate, but just enough. The amount of chicken that they packed into these sliders was immense, it was so much. I love Dave’s Hot Chicken, come try this place out, its better than Chick-Fil-A

This was an interesting experience with mixed feelings. We went through the drive thru and ordered. Looking at the menu, I noticed the really high prices: 2 chicken fingers and fries for $11.99! It came with bread and pickles which I didn’t care about. I don’t like those kind of pickles but tried them for the review. They were fresh and crisp. The bread was just 2 pieces of white bread (not toasted, just 2 slices of bread). The fries were fresh and seasoned well but nothing fancy. The 2 chicken fingers were really large so I felt a little better about the price. The chicken was very fresh and juicy. I got the really mild which had a little kick but was not too spicy. It was a massive amount of dry rub all over oily chicken (I imagine the added oil helps the rub stick but made it difficult to wash off of my hands). Hubby had the plain ones which were so much better. The sauce tastes like a combination of mayo and ketchup. This will not be a regular stop for me.

Advise going in right now to order. Drive thru is a bit busy and the route is a mess right now. Other than that, the food is fantastic. The spice is a bit sweet and peppery if you like that. Medium was the perfect temp for me and I like hot. It wasn’t hot by any means but the flavor was perfectly blended. Didn’t go in so atmosphere can change.

Edit: Went inside and it was a nice setup. Got through the line way quicker.
Picked up a shake this time, I think it’s mid for the price but at least it was available.

Great customer service. I ordered the medium to be safe. It was great, but next time I will try the hot. The plates had a great presentation. I will be returning

Did not enjoy to say the least.

I’ll start off with the good, new restaurant is clean adequately staffed and has a good vibe. And that’s pretty much all I got to say good.

Speaking of the atmosphere the chairs are these hard small metal ones that are super uncomfortable so the entire time I was sitting there part of my lower body were kind of doing the fall asleep numb thing.

Moving on to the food, the mac and cheese as pictured is industrial goop cheese. Very cheap and not much flavor. There is no melted cheese on top like some restaurants do either. If you’re a fan of the KFC type mac and cheese for some reason then that might be your jam.

The fries are good nice and crispy, well seasoned but I did the $1.50 up charge for the cheese fries. Once again this is cheap industrial goop cheese and not real melted cheese. Flavor is okay for the fries but I find Taco Bell nacho cheese to be much superior. For the amount of cheese given for a $1.50 was pretty pathetic

The chicken is pretty decent sized chicken strips for that in the slider. The chicken alone probably wouldn’t have been so bad and I got it naked, but the mild flavor was not a liquid it was a dry powder rub and it tastes like they just dumped a packet of chili powder from McCormick on the chicken. It was not very good at all. Had I just got it naked I think I would have like the chicken better. Perhaps some of the hotter sauces have a better flavor but I wasn’t really looking for super spicy today.

The milkshake actually was another good point, I would say it’s in the top three of milkshakes in town being Sonic and Chick-fil-A. I’m talking about just the ice cream mixture base a really nice vanilla super smooth.

Finally I’ll address the elephant in the room, prices. This is another restaurant where basics like chicken and potatoes are some of the most expensive you’ll find anywhere. Two chicken strips and a order of fries 12 bucks really. I can get an attire pack of chicken breasts and a large bag of fries for that at the store. I just don’t understand the pricing for two of the cheapest staple items even in 2026 with prices high across the board. The milkshake was almost $7 which means that that little regular size cup of milkshake cost more than most quart ice cream containers at the store. That’s kind of sad too.

I just went in by myself and got a number 3, I did the $1.50 cheese fry upgrade, got the vanilla shake to drink and a side of mac and cheese just to try it as a little bonus to the combo. My bill was over $27. Knocking on $30 just for a number 3 a drink and an extra side. I was sitting near some army guys and they were griping that they spent $60 on three of them for what isn’t even a fancy fast food restaurant.

I won’t go into any other details there was more, but I do want to put one last note of the combo came with a slice of white bread. It wasn’t buttered or oiled, it wasn’t toasted. It was a generic floppy piece of just white bread. I found that to be just super sad, it wasn’t even one of those thick barbecue loaf slices just the dollar loaf of white bread, a single unaltered slice. I know everybody’s going to come here and it’s new and everything but I cannot recommend it at all unless you really like their slaw or something.

A couple of almost forgot added points. They Dave sauce is just another thousand Island sauce mixture thing, it’s all right though. You can’t get other sauces like mayonnaise here for your sliders they just don’t have it which I thought was odd for someone who offered chicken sandwiches. And when I tried to get the hot barbecue sauce on the tender or the slider they told me for some reason they can’t do that and it’s only for their bites AKA boneless wings. I don’t really understand having worked in many restaurants while you couldn’t just throw a chicken strip in that sauce in a bowl and mix it up but hey they have their arbitrary rules like everybody else nowadays.

Welcome Dave’s Hot Chicken to Anderson! I visited on opening day and it was quite a party. Live DJ inside and line out the door (and drive thru around the building). They have a whole range of spice levels from no spice to nuclear spice. I like “hot” and my wife loved the “mild” spice levels. Good Mac n cheese & seasoned fries and tasty Dave’s sauce for dipping.

I am sure it will be easier to get in and out of here once the hype dies down, but they really moved customers through efficiently all things considered!

Our first visit to Dave’s Hot Chicken and it will not be our last! Everyone was very polite and the food… omg… we both got one tender and a slider with fries. It was enormous! Being out first experience we went with light mild on the seasoning but will go a little spicier next time. The “slider” was bigger than any slider I’ve ever had and the tender was the size of at least two tender in most other places. Dave’s has a great vibe and we will definitely return!

The food was great! We wish they had a better sweet tea though, being a restaurant in the south..lol Also, I wish they offered milkshake straws with the milkshakes, because I had to use a spoon to eat it, due to the m&m pieces not being able to go up the skinny straw..lol
It was good though. I just hope with it being a new restaurant, that everything stays consistent, and they keep it good.

I just want to say Thank you Jim for helping me figure out the menu and being so amazing with the customer service. Literally the best part of coming to Dave’s.
I’ve come 3-4 times already and since I know that Jim is always in Drive through I always make sure to come through the drive through. He’s always so polite and super energetic which is a big change compared to the usual from fast food employees. I own a restaurant and I wish I had my employees with the same attitude as he has.
Now to the food: The chicken has the best flavor you can ask for. They don’t have combos like most places unfortunately and it is quite expensive. The food is definitely worth the price though. I tried the reaper and boy it’s exactly as advertised. Usually I get hot or extra hot but today I wanted to test out their best. It is a little annoying that they haven’t had the buffalo mac but Jim told me it will be back in stock soon. Honestly my only critiques about the food is that you guys need a kids meal (the #5 is close but no bueno).
All in all,
You guys have a great start and guys … Please give this man my appreciation for his amazing personality and effort in a job field that even I at times feel is thankless.
