I came here with my wife and son for a late afternoon lunch and everything hit the spot. I tried the Romance Roll which was delicious, and the miso soup was solid too. My wife ordered the Spicy Tuna Roll and she loved it. The place was super clean and welcoming, even though the restrooms could use a little update. The staff were kind and patient, which made the whole experience even better. Great spot to relax and enjoy a good meal together.

Me and my boyfriend ABSOLUTELY LOVE DASHU We’ve been there for most of our special occasions and the owners are the sweetest! I would recommend to try our favorite, which is Beef Teriyaki! Never disappoints!!✨

Kind of a lackluster experience. Edamame, gyoza, and spring rolls left a lot to be desired. Steak hibachi was ok. Steak tasted fine but veggies tasted reheated. Rice wasn’t amazing either. We got spicy tuna, spider, and Mexican roll. The sushi was the best part, but still not amazing. Slightly overpriced as well.

I’m so overwhelmed with the kindness at this restaurant. Not only were they friendly but the owner was so sweet. The food was amazing and I can’t wait to come back. But don’t take my word for it come see for yourself. Later foodies

The atmosphere is so nice and very promising. So I’m sad to say that the food did not equate. After my experience here about an hour later my friends and I were sick from the evening into the next day. The drinks were nice the appetizer was good but the entree wasn’t great and two of us had tofu while the other had a shrimp entree. We were all struggling. I had no intent to write a review, and just chalk it up to not for me. Until my stomach was this upset. Sadly will not be a returning customer.

The best Japanese restaurant in Huntsville! I love to come here for celebrations like birthdays and anniversaries. It’s great for both 1-2 people dinners, or up to 10 person meals. The staff is so friendly and remembers you. The atmosphere feels classy, without the pressure to dress-up, but you wouldn’t feel out-of-place if you did! I recommend Dashu to everyone craving good Japanese food

Walked in expecting typical Asian menu, and was surprisingly impressed as this place offered higher quality closer to authentic sushi (as opposed to the Americanized versions commonly served).

We were super excited about a Japanese restaurant we’ve never been to.

Interior looks like a semi-fancy Italian restaurant with enough Japanese decorations to be off-putting and odd classical music playing.

Service was quick but not particularly clear in speech. It’s not something to truly hold against the server, but it does stand out. We also had to stop the server to get refills on water instead of her staying on top of them and we were not asked how our meal was.

The food is where I really thought the ambiance and the pricing were disproportionate. $115 with tip for three people. We ordered a roll to split, a hibachi plate, and two teriyaki dinners.

Middling: The Shrimp Tempura Roll was nothing special but not bad. Salad was watery but tasted fine, miso soup wasn’t as briny as I’m used to and it was missing mushrooms but it was fine.

Good: Teriyaki scallops were well-cooked, and the teriyaki was thankfully not sweet. Steaks were correctly cooked, although not seasoned. Gyoza was well cooked and tasty. The tempura had been properly fried, and there were no complaints on that front.

Bad: Chicken was dry and overcooked. Fried rice is infinitely underseasoned. The California rolls were disgusting and honestly just tasted overwhelmingly of cucumber skins, no equal amounts of avocado or shredded crab to offset the grassy taste.

To be honest, I can’t say I would give this restaurant another chance when I can get pretty much everything I got from them at Hibachi on Whitesburg or I Love Korea on Jordan Lane for a slight cut in cost and moderately better taste and quality.

But please try it for yourself and see if you agree.

Update: been here a several times now. Seems better on the weekends. Sushi and service is better on busier nights. Miso separates if you let it sit in your bowl. Not my top pick for Maki Monday in town.

Feb 2023: Delish! Subdued but friendly service.
