A GREAT NECK GEM!!! Voted best sushi in Nassau County? I AGREE!!! WELL DESERVED. As you can tell from my pictures, I come here all the time. This place has been around since forever. From family dinners, to casual friend hangouts, to special events, Daruma is a clear WINNER.

Daruma of Tokyo completely exceeded my expectations. From the moment we sat down, the service stood out right away, everyone was attentive, kind, and genuinely cared about the experience. We never had to flag anyone down, and nothing felt rushed or forced. It felt calm, thoughtful, and welcoming, which already set the tone for the night.
The food was incredible, and you could immediately tell how fresh everything was. The sashimi was clean, and melted in your mouth especially the tuna, which had that buttery texture. No fishy taste at all, just pure flavor. The amaebi was sweet and tender, and the ikura was perfectly plump and fresh, not overly salty or mushy like you sometimes get elsewhere, AND YOU CANNOT BEAT THE PRICES HERE. The first time I came, I was definitely skeptical because of how low the price was but wow, the quality is amazing. This is definitely a spot I’d come back to and recommend to anyone looking for high-quality Japanese food in NYC. You can tell Daruma of Tokyo takes pride in what they do, and it really shows. And they have all of these claw machines we won so many and lots of kids love it!

Ordered an order of 20 pieces sashimi plate and only received 19 pieces and two of the sashimi pieces are imitation crab meat. I complained that imitation crab meat are not sashimi. Waiter indicated that they’ve been in business for 35 years and has always served sashimi plates with imitation crab meat as sashimi. Fortunately, I didn’t need to argue long for the waiter to swap the imitation crab meat for two pieces of salmons for me, will not go back for mediocre chef.

I’ve been to a lot of sushi spots in NYC and Long Island, but Daruma of Tokyo in Great Neck honestly surprised me in the best way. The vibe here is so warm and inviting, the staff actually pay attention to you, check in without hovering, and make you feel comfortable right away. It’s the kind of place where you can relax the second you sit down.

The sushi was unbelievably fresh. I’m picky about sashimi, and theirs tasted clean and smooth with zero fishy aftertaste. The tuna practically melts, and the salmon had that perfect buttery texture you only get from really high-quality cuts. The amaebi and ikura were standouts too, sweet, fresh, and not overly briny. You can tell they take their time with the prep because everything came out beautifully presented.

One thing that really impressed me was the pricing. For the quality you’re getting, it honestly feels like a steal. I’ve paid way more at places that didn’t even come close. This spot proves you don’t need to drop crazy money just to get genuinely good sushi.

It’s definitely a place I’d bring friends or family to, especially people who appreciate authentic Japanese flavors without any pretension. And yes the claw machines in the back are such a cute touch. We ended up playing after dinner and won a couple of toys, which just made the night even better.

If you’re in the Great Neck area, Daruma of Tokyo is absolutely worth checking out. Fresh food, great service, fair prices

One of my favorite spots for sushi! My friends and I always make the drive out here bc it’s very much worth the drive. Sushi is always fresh and delicious and service is incredible. Staff is very attentive to detail and was super accommodating to our large party. The manager always helps us order (we’re picky and undecisive) and never disappoints. Highly recommend!

One of my fav spots to eat lunch! I eat here almost every week and it’s been reliable and consistent with freshness every time. I always get the lunch special which includes soup and salad, overall great deal considering portion size. Honorable mentions are my favorite special rolls – the Mets, tempura udon and their salad dressing. Staff is friendly and attentive so service moves quick, which I appreciate for my limited break. Will be back next week 🙂
